Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), Product

  • Full-time

Company Description

We started with a simple idea—that everyone should be able to accept credit cards—and we’ve been rethinking buying and selling ever since.

For sellers, we’re creating one cohesive service to run your entire business, from a register in your pocket to analytics on your laptop. For buyers, we’re making it faster to order from the businesses you love and more fun to pay your friends back.

Buying and selling sound like simple things—and they should be. Somewhere along the way, they got complicated. We’re working hard to make commerce easy for everyone.

Job Description

Our hardware team builds the tangible connection to all that is Square. We started with a simple and elegant Reader that turns any phone or tablet into a mobile point of sale. Since then, we have expanded our hardware footprint to meet the needs of more sellers. Most recently, we introduced our first Android-based solution: Square Register, the first fully integrated point of sale that enables people to start selling right out of the box. In this role, you will ensure our sellers and their customers have a remarkable experience by owning the system test strategy for our integrated Square hardware products.

You will:

  • Own the definition and execution of overall test strategy, both manual and automated, for the Android platform that ships on our hardware devices.

  • Move up and down the stack and become an expert on how applications, system, and firmware are integrated.

  • Partner with other development teams to create interfaces to enable product testability.

  • Write code to expand, stabilize, and mature product test automation framework.

  • Participate in all product development phases from requirements to production.

  • Communicate clear recommendations to product owners and stakeholders based on defined test goals, acceptance criteria, and identified risks.

  • Champion for a remarkable customer experience within product engineering through product and process improvements.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5+ years of test engineering and/or software engineering experience, preferably on consumer electronics products.

  • Created and implemented test strategy for a complex functional area, which included both manual and automated testing.

  • Proven a strong aptitude for learning new technologies with a good instinct for discovering defects in firmware, software, and hardware.

  • Developed with a focus on testability or for the purpose of performing automated tests.

  • Track record of driving critical bugs to resolution. Prioritize bugs on behalf of the customer.

  • Mentored junior engineers on SQA methodologies and best practices.

  • Clear written and spoken communication skills.

  • Experience working collaboratively on a cross-functional team.

Even better:

  • Developed automation where off-the-shelf tools do not exist.

  • Knowledge of continuous integration systems.

  • Experience at a small company or as the first quality engineer on a team.

  • Managed or partnered with contractors.

  • Experience validating integrated systems, specifically AOSP and Android applications.
