Job Description

Our international communications team is made up of tough, quick-witted, entrepreneurial, and intellectually curious people. We communicate to the world Square’s mission to empower businesses and individuals with beautifully simple tools that give them an advantage where they previously and unfairly had none.

We are looking for a Senior Associate to support communications efforts for our UK business, sharing the Square story with multiple audiences including national, local and specialist media, partners, elected officials and government stakeholders.

You will

  • Work closely with the UK Communications Lead, other teams across London, Dublin and San Francisco and our agency partners to develop and execute creative campaigns that highlight our sellers, products, and company in newsworthy and interesting ways.

  • Develop and maintain close relationships with key reporters and publications, Square customers and other third-party advocates.

  • Be an advocate for Square and develop narratives that will resonate with diverse audiences.  

  • Draft and edit written materials including press releases, advertorials, briefing docs, FAQs, blog posts and other collateral.

  • Maintain lists, reports, coverage roundups and other systems to ensure smooth running of activities across multiple time zones.  

  • Identify and coordinate relevant speaking opportunities for company executives and Square sellers

  • Roll up your sleeves and pitch in, contributing to the overall growth of the UK business by contributing time, effort and ideas to functions outside of your lane.  

Qualifications

You have:

  • At least four years relevant work experience, either in a PR or PA agency, or an in-house or public sector communications team.
  • Skills in planning, organising, prioritising and executing simultaneous projects and activities.

  • Strong and prolific writing and editing skills.

  • Experience identifying news stories and pitching them to the media

  • A solid understanding of the structures of UK government at national, regional and local levels.

  • A self-starter attitude: you instinctively and consistently create personal and professional stretch goals and meet them.

  • An ability to succeed in a collaborative, start-up environment, working cross-functionally with colleagues around the world.

  • Willingness to travel in the UK and internationally where required.

  • Curiosity, creative thinking, and a sense of humor.
