Job Description

Position Title: HR Generalist
Reports To: VP of Human Resources
Location: Kansas City, MO (Hybrid – Average 2 days/week on-site)
Experience Level: 3–5 Years
Primary Focus: Frontline Employee Relations, ADA Interactive Process & HR Project Management

Position Overview
The HR Generalist serves as the operational engine for employee relations (ER), workplace compliance, and key HRBP initiatives. Positioned strategically between the HR Coordinator and HR Business Partners (HRBPs), this role directly supports frontline managers and employees—particularly across our non-exempt inside sales organization and corporate teams.

This role requires someone who thrives in core ER mastery: managing high-volume casework, conducting objective investigations, leading ADA interactive conversations, and coaching frontline leaders on soft skills and communication. Additionally, this individual will serve as a tactical project manager, partnering with the Lead HRBP and VP of HR to drive key annual initiatives (End-of-Year Merit, Handbook Reviews, and Talent Reviews).

Key Responsibilities
1. Employee Relations & Case Management

  • Casework Ownership: Receive and manage assigned ER tickets from the HR Coordinator via Jira. Own, investigate, and resolve standard workplace issues, including attendance/punctuality, peer friction, performance management, policy violations, and commission-related disputes.
  • Frontline Manager Coaching: Act as a trusted advisor to frontline sales leaders, providing 1-on-1 coaching on communication, delivering constructive feedback, administering progressive discipline, and managing difficult employee conversations.
  • Strategic Escalations: Maintain a clear threshold of autonomy while identifying complex, sensitive, or high-risk cases for timely escalation to the HRBP or VP of HR.
  • Documentation & Data Integrity: Maintain thorough, objective, and legally defensible ER investigation records and documentation.

2. ADA Interactive Process & Accommodation Leadership

  • Interactive Process Guidance: Partner closely with the Internal Leaves Administrator (who manages third-party LOA vendors) to lead direct, supportive interactive process discussions with employees and managers.
  • Accommodation Decisions: Evaluate medical documentation, assess essential job functions, determine reasonable accommodations under the ADA, and track ongoing accommodation plans.

3. HR Project Management & Benchmarking

  • Project Execution: Serve as the primary project manager for core annual HR milestones, including End-of-Year Merit Planning, Annual Handbook Reviews, and Talent Reviews, keeping the Lead HRBP and VP of HR on schedule.
  • PM Tooling: Build and maintain clear project timelines, deliverables, and tracking dashboards using Monday.com and Google Workspace.
  • Benchmarking & Research: Conduct competitive industry benchmarking on workplace policies, benefits, compensation trends, and ER best practices to inform future policy revisions and proactive ER strategy.

Work Environment & Location:
This position operates on a hybrid schedule (averaging 2 days per week on-site at our Kansas City, MO office) and up to 3 days remote.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive HR experience, with a heavy emphasis on employee relations, workplace investigations, and employment law compliance.
  • Industry/Workforce Context: Prior experience supporting non-exempt, metrics-driven workforces (e.g., inside sales, call centers, high-volume operational environments) is highly preferred.
  • Multi-State Compliance: Strong foundational knowledge of federal labor laws and multi-state compliance (FMLA, ADA, FLSA wage & hour laws across 35+ states; experience with Missouri labor regulations is a plus).
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Workday (HRIS).
  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
