Based in our Vienna or Ljubljana office, this role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with experienced engineers, designers, and product leaders, contribute to key technical and creative decisions, and help build scalable backend systems that power engaging game experiences across our growing portfolio.

THE CHALLENGE:

  • Design, implement, and evolve backend services and game logic that support high-quality, reliable, and scalable gaming products.
  • Translate product and game design requirements into robust technical solutions, providing constructive feedback and asking the right questions to improve outcomes.
  • Build clean, maintainable, and well-tested software that minimizes defects, supports efficient operations, and enables future product growth.
  • Take ownership of technical decisions within your area, actively suggest improvements, and contribute to planning, architecture discussions, and retrospectives.

 

ABOUT YOU:

  • Strong professional experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend development and production-grade systems.
  • Strong experience with Java and hands-on experience with Spring Boot, including REST APIs, configuration, and security fundamentals.
  • Good understanding of object-oriented design, clean code, and software design principles such as SOLID.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining backend services in production environments.
  • Proficiency working with SQL and NoSQL databases, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB, including schema design, efficient queries, and indexing.
  • Experience implementing domain logic, business rules, or game-related mechanics in scalable systems.
  • Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows, including code reviews and pull requests.
  • Knowledge of messaging and event-driven systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
  • Practical experience using Docker, including building images, supporting local development, and working with containerized services.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience writing unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure reliability and maintainability.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of features from technical design through to production.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and ability to balance quality, speed, and maintainability.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers and support strong engineering practices across the team.
  • Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Proactive attitude and continuous learning mindset.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience in game development, casino games, virtual sports, betting products, or other real-time/high-availability entertainment systems.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, including deployment concepts, Helm, scaling, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience making architectural and technical decisions for scalable, maintainable systems.
  • Ability to design systems that support performance, reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Leading by example in code quality, reviews, testing discipline, and engineering best practices.
  • Supporting the team with technical guidance, mentoring, and pragmatic decision-making.
  • Practical experience using AI tools to support software development.
  • Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code and ensure correctness, security, and maintainability.
  • Understanding of best practices and limitations of AI-assisted development.
  • Comfortable integrating AI tools into day-to-day engineering workflows to improve productivity and quality.

Additional Information

The minimum monthly salary for this position is according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Overpayment will be considered depending on qualifications and working experience.
