The ‘Odds Tribe’ in Sportradar offers popular trading services, used by over 200 organizations worldwide. Our team of experts manage betting probabilities using our leading edge mathematical models. Our clients can control their own sportsbooks in web interfaces, configuring everything from event and odds creation to market monitoring and result confirmation.

THE CHALLENGE:
Due to our success, we are continuously hiring motivated engineers in the Odds department. However, the current engineering leadership setup is not scaling well with our growth rate.
Our solution is to expand the engineering leadership group with a Senior Chapter Lead/Engineering Leader role:
- Help us grow and scale high performant durable teams that deliver products on top of our real-time sports data collected 24/7 globally for more than 30 different sports.
- Lead engineering consistency and alignment across multiple engineering teams.
- Manage, support and develop your reports - Engineering Leaders.
- Have a real opportunity to influence and drive engineering decisions that positively impact our customers across the globe and the world of sports betting.
- Promote good engineering practices like TDD, BDD, SOLID techniques.
- Take an active part in making the most out of our AWS partnership.
- Become a domain expert in the exciting world of real-time hi-tech sports data.
- Split your time between 60% People Leadership and 40% Engineering Leadership.
- Calibrate performance and compensation for your part of department.
- Join the Engineering Leadership group and lead and drive actions in themes such as:
- SDLC alignment and improvement plans
- Objectives and Competencies
- Department Routines
- Cross Department Engagement
- Engineering Roadmap
- Department support functions like Security, DevOps, Sys Admins and Audit & Compliance.
YOUR PROFILE:
As a Senior Engineering Leader at Sportradar, you are responsible for both the leadership of the Engineering Leaders, but also the coaching and guidance of all the engineers within your organization. You are comfortable being hands-on, but this role does not require it. Your focus will be on the people and driving our organization to the next level of engineering excellence.
You will serve as leader to nurture our culture of collaboration, communication, and coordination between and within teams.
Prior to taking on engineering management and leadership, you were a senior individual contributor with a comprehensive understanding of complex systems that you were a vital part of developing & launching over the years.
Your experience has given you the perspective to help Software Engineers prioritize their tasks, shape their career decisions, and face tricky challenges. We are also expecting you to keep up to date with engineering best practices, making you better equipped when helping your employees decide what competencies they want to develop.
We need our engineers to be versatile, capable of mentoring and enthusiastic about taking on new challenges as we continue to push technology forward.
Your leadership will help your employees to reach their performance sweet spot. With the correct balance of fun, challenges, and focus, we are expecting high employee satisfaction. It is also important that each of them has a sustainable workload that will keep them engaged with Sportradar for the long term.
Required:
- A knack for effective and clear communication in all circumstances.
- Hands-on people and technical leadership experience.
- A passion for bringing great products into our world through collaboration and ingenuity.
- Extensive professional experience in software development with working on robust, complex systems that serve a high volume of users.
- Previous hands-on experience with software delivery and applying good engineering practices like TDD, BDD, SOLID, Clean Code.
- An appreciation for engineering best practices and quality over quantity of work.
- Proactive leadership approach, actively identifying any problems your engineers and teams might experience.
Desirable experience:
- Prior hands-on experience with technologies from our tech stack: AWS, Java, SpringBoot, Quarkus, Docker, Kubernetes, Protobuf & GRPC.
- Distributed systems.
- Message queuing (RabbitMQ, Kafka).
