Senior Network Engineer – Enterprise & SD-WAN
Work Type: Hybrid – 3 days onsite, Newark, NJ
Job Summary
Senior technical role responsible for the architecture, engineering, implementation, modernization, and operational support of NJ Transit's large, geographically distributed enterprise network — covering corporate facilities, rail/bus locations, data centers, stations, and critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, configure, and troubleshoot enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure.
Support complex L2/L3 environments using BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, VRFs, STP, QoS, multicast, and route redistribution.
Engineer WAN/SD-WAN connectivity — MPLS, Ethernet, EPL/EVPL, broadband, wavelength, dark fiber.
Support Cisco Nexus, ACI, Catalyst, and data center networking (10G/40G/100G/400G, DWDM, DCI).
Implement Zero Trust, SASE, network segmentation, VPN, and IPSec.
Support Azure ExpressRoute, AWS Direct Connect, and cloud connectivity.
Develop automation using Python, Ansible, APIs, Terraform.
Create HLDs, LLDs, MOPs, test plans, and network diagrams.
Coordinate with architecture, operations, telecom, vendors, and carriers.
Required Skills (7+ Years Each)
Enterprise network engineering in large, complex environments (10+ yrs)
Expert-level enterprise routing & switching
Advanced Cisco (routers, Catalyst, Nexus) experience
Advanced BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, TCP/IP, VLANs, VRFs, STP, QoS, multicast, VPNs
Strong WAN & SD-WAN architecture & implementation
Carrier telecom services & WAN circuit technologies
Highly available & geographically diverse network design
