DE / SAR Underwriter (Remote)
Job Description
Southern Trust Mortgage is experiencing tremendous growth. To accommodate our growth, we are hiring DE / SAR Mortgage Underwriters.
The Mortgage Underwriter will decide whether or not to approve mortgage loans based on information provided in loan applications. They verify income and employment information, review credit history and calculate the value of a borrower's collateral and assets. They also ensure that the property
specifications and loan terms meet financial institution requirements and government regulations. Once the application has been evaluated and the degree of risk has been assessed, the mortgage underwriter documents the reasons for approval or denial of the loan and adds the documentation to the loan file. The loan file is then returned to the originating loan office where it is reviewed by a loan committee.
Production and Underwriting
- The Underwriter has responsibility for new and renewal premium in the region on assigned producers and/or accounts. The Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and pricing accounts in accordance with ICAT’s underwriting standards, personal underwriting authority level, and ICAT’s General Agency Agreements (GAA).
- The Underwriter may be assigned to assist with accounts with greater than $25M of values
Relationship Manager
- The Underwriter is responsible for several producers and/or accounts and is the primary point of contact for that producer and his or her agency personnel. The Underwriter is responsible for monitoring production, hit ratios, renewal retention ratios spread of risk, and other production and quality measures.
Market Research/Intelligence
- Gathers market data for new markets, products, and or segments and works with the Peril Unit Leader (PUL) to identify new production opportunities and track competitor activity.
- Gathers and reports information through visit reports, team briefings and market updates for the underwriting personnel.
Training/Mentoring
- Provides informal and formal underwriting training as required.
- Mentors less experienced underwriting personnel on market conditions, competitors, relationship management, etc.
Documentation/Underwriting Standards
- Meets all file documentation standards, complies with underwriting and authority level standards, and passes all audits (both internal and external).
- Responsible for conducting regular and periodic underwriting self-review.
Regional Leadership
- Works with the PUL to establish regional production budgets and assist in agency development.
- Works with the PUL to manage regional underwriting results including regional modeled results, spread of risk initiatives, and concentration of risk controls.
Qualifications
- Must be DE and / or SAR designated
- At least 3+ years' underwriting experience
- Knowledge of FHA, VA and USDA underwriting
