About the role

Sodexo is seeking to employ an Electrical Apprentice on a full-time basis working Monday to Friday, 10-hour days in Weipa, Far North Queensland. This opportunity will provide exposure to a wide range of projects in the township of Weipa and will also come with a company uniform, training and support to complete an Electrical Apprenticeship. This is an exciting opportunity to not only complete an apprenticeship and obtain a trade but also work with an organisation who are passionate about fostering growth and providing on-going career development.

This is role is a local hire only, meaning you must currently reside in Weipa or the surrounding areas to be considered. Sodexo aims to be an employer of choice for Indigenous Australians, and we encourage Indigenous people to apply for this position. 

As an Electrical Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to learn a range of skills on the job whilst being supported to complete your Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician. This broad position will offer a wealth of knowledge to build a foundation within the industry including the opportunity to:      

  • Work under guidance in a supervised apprenticeship
  • Exposure to selection, installation, set up, testing, fault finding, and repair
  • Maintenance of electrical systems, equipment in buildings and around premises, and
  • Upon successful completion meet the requirements for an Electrician's Licence under the Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council

Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities for an Apprentice Electrician will include but not be limited to the below:

  • Learning to read electrical plans and specifications
  • Installation of conduits, cable trays and electrical cabling
  • Installation of data and TV cabling.
  • Fit on-off light switches, power outlets, data outlets and light fittings
  • Fault finding of electrical equipment
  • Testing and commissioning of electrical and communications systems
  • Follow the company WHS systems to ensure safe working conditions for the site team
  • Maintaining all tools, plant and equipment on site to a high standard.

 

About you

We are looking for a reliable, positive and motivated team player with a drive to learn the trade. You must be a currently live in Weipa, FNQ or surrounding areas. In addition, you will also meet the below criteria:

  • You will have completed year 12 HSC or an Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship Course at TAFE
  • Have a good mathematical knowledge and understanding
  • Possess a valid manual drivers licence - essential
  • Access to reliable transportation is advantageous but not essential
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Enjoy Physical work and being outdoors
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate a high regard to safe work practices, and

All Candidates must have Australian or New Zealand Residency and will be subject to a Pre-Employment Functional Assessment including drug and alcohol test.  A national police clearance with a validity of 3 months may be required.
