Job Description

The Rheumatology Medical Director, North America Medical Affairs supports the medical business goals and objectives for the product in development by providing strategic leadership and tactical execution in support of the Medical Affairs Plan.

The Rheumatology Medical Director/Senior Medical Director, North America Medical Affairs will provide strategic and scientific medical affairs leadership for the Rheumatology product in development as per the direction of the Senior Medical Director, Rheumatology. The Medical Director will help drive the development and implementation of the US medical strategy, tactical and HCP engagement plans in support of a US launch.  S/he will partner with field medical, to engage and educate health care providers (HCPs), medical organizations, payers and patient advocacy groups. He/she will represent the overall Medical Science organization on cross functional initiatives

The successful candidate will need strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, communication, analytical skills and ability to develop effective cross-functional relationships in a high-paced environment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and scientific medical input for the Rheumatology product in development.  Become a disease state and product expert, providing feedback and insights to medical affairs deliverables, including the design and implementation of Medical Affairs plans in collaboration with the Associate Medical Director and Senior Medical Director.
  • Work closely with medical field team to develop/enhance KOL and key institution engagement plans and participate in KOL engagement and development establishing Sobi Inc as a scientific partner of choice.
  • Create and execute advisory boards and other educational activities (webinars, medical roundtables, symposium, congress presence)
  • In collaboration with Senior Medical Director, develop US evidence generation strategy to address stakeholder (HCPs, payers and patients) needs (including product differentiation, health outcomes) collaborating with HEOR and global partners. 
  • Drive the strategic creation and execution of publication planning and key scientific communications.
  • Develop and foster strong cross collaborative relationships with internal partners including Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations, Market Access, Medical Information, Pharmacovigilance Sales and Marketing providing medical insight and product/disease state expertise to execute key business tactics.
  • Support the market access team as needed with medical expertise and in discussions/presentations to payers
  • Interacts with Key Opinion Leaders, Regulatory Authorities, and other external agencies in support of our products/ therapeutic areas of interest to advance company objectives

Qualifications

 

  • Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) in life sciences
  • 5+ years of pharmaceutical / biotech with at least 2 of those years in non-field based roles (ideally Medical Director) 
  • Previous experience in Rheumatology, and prior launch experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills required, including ability to understand and articulate complicated scientific concepts
  • Experience identifying and developing solutions to data gaps as well as developing, presenting, and publishing clinical data.
  • Excellent interdepartment partnering ability, including ability to effectively work with customers and colleagues, and ability to work effectively in a cross functional team environment; ability to work with people at all levels
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills; able to inspire others by fostering a positive climate
  • Working knowledge of US-specific legal, regulatory and compliance regulations and guidelines
  • Strong Scientific and clinical acumen as well as strategic and analytical abilities
  • Drive for results with urgency, solution-orientation, innovation
  • Enthusiasm and passion for work, kindness and empathy

*Up to 25% travel primarily domestic
This location is based in Waltham, MA but can be remote

Additional Information

The base salary pay range for this role is $179,000-240,000 USD annually. Actual pay for this position will take into account factors such as experience and location. In addition to a base salary, this position is also eligible for a competitive 401k match, short and long-term incentives, medical, dental, vision, STD/LTD and life insurance benefits, in addition to other health and wellness programs and offerings.
