Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Test Engineer owns QA and test automation practices across the team's software delivery, giving Technical Delivery dedicated quality assurance capability spanning backend services and front-end applications.

Duties:

  • Define QA and test strategy for new projects, deciding the right mix of automated and manual coverage.
  • Champion QA best practices across the team, embedding quality gates and review checkpoints into the software delivery lifecycle rather than testing only at the end.
  • Work with business analysts, developers and stakeholders to understand acceptance criteria and translate them into test scenarios.
  • Design and build automated test suites using JUnit for backend and service-level testing.
  • Set up and maintain code coverage tracking and reporting using JaCoCo.
  • Build and maintain front-end test automation using Karma, Jasmine and Protractor (or their successors).
  • Manage test case design, execution and traceability using TestRail.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, working with the Platform Engineer to keep test feedback fast.
  • Identify gaps in test coverage and prioritise where new automated tests add most value.
  • Perform manual exploratory testing where automation isn't practical or coverage is still developing.
  • Present test coverage, quality metrics and risk status clearly to stakeholders, including non-technical audiences.
