Job Description
Position Summary
The Seal Repair Technician is a highly skilled, self-motivated professional who takes ownership of complex seal repair activities while serving as a technical resource and mentor to the broader repair team. This individual thrives in a hands-on environment, demonstrates strong problem-solving capabilities, and requires minimal oversight to successfully manage repair processes from evaluation through final assembly.
The role plays a key part in ensuring quality, safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement within the repair center. In addition to performing advanced repair and diagnostic work, the technician provides guidance, training, and support to fellow team members while helping drive efficiency, process consistency, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of mechanical seal repair processes, including inspection, disassembly, evaluation, repair, assembly, testing, and documentation.
- Serve as a technical mentor and subject matter resource for repair personnel, sharing best practices and supporting skill development across the team.
- Demonstrate initiative by independently identifying solutions, resolving technical challenges, and driving work to completion with minimal supervision.
- Support day-to-day operations and provide leadership assistance when needed to maintain workflow and productivity.
- Evaluate returned equipment and components to determine repair feasibility, repair requirements, and recommended actions.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, bills of materials, work orders, and technical documentation to ensure accurate repairs and assembly.
- Troubleshoot equipment, tooling, and repair processes to maintain quality standards and operational efficiency.
- Verify components and assemblies using precision measuring instruments and established quality procedures.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Operations, and other cross-functional teams to resolve technical questions and customer needs.
- Support customer interactions when required by providing technical expertise and repair recommendations.
- Maintain accurate repair records, inventory tracking, and documentation.
- Promote and participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with all Environmental, Health, Safety, and quality requirements.
- Maintain an organized, professional, and safe work environment.
- Travel occasionally to support customer or business needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EHS REQUIREMENTS:
- Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Company’s goals.
- Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook.
- Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company’s environmental performance goals.
- Complete, and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years of mechanical seals experience/or comparable experience within the refining, petrochemical, chemical, power, or upstream markets working on or maintaining equipment and 6 months to 1-year on-the-job training.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
- Ability to understand and complete instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to raise, lower and moves parts weighing up to 60 pounds when required.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of an office, shop, or warehouse.
- Must be able to safely bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at area.
- Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate hand tools and mechanical tools.
- Must be able to work at a fast pace.
- Must be able to tolerate changing priorities, and complete assignments despite frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
