Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Network Engineer, you will work cross-functionally with Product Management, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply, Service and customers to develop network strategies, resolve network issues and perform installations of the network products. You will assist in development of new network products, improve overall serviceability, including new products, derivative products, product upgrades and enhancements, and improving the customer experience.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design network installations for CPSS, BSCAN SIM and other Smiths Detection systems.
- Document network setup and troubleshooting efforts.
- Setup file shares on Windows and Linux.
- Create software installation tools.
- Administer windows installations, including creating users and assigning access and share rights.
- Desktop configuration: Windows 10 and 11 product editions, Local Group Policy, Local Privacy Settings, Static IP addressing and Windows Services.
- Networking: Routing and subnet masking.
- IP Addressing including DHCP and Static IP Addressing
- Work cross-functionally with Sales and Product Management to evaluate, develop, and configure network architectures (hardware and software) and Bills of Material (BOM) based on sales tenders (Request for Proposal).
- Develop and present network architecture configuration plans to end customer, Sales, and Product Management.
- Work directly with customers and stakeholders to determine their needs.
- Document installation efforts to include specific customer configuration.
- Install and deploy Windows and Linux based systems.
- Use data-driven analysis to identify field serviceability and reliability improvements necessary to improve network hardware and software reliability.
- Troubleshoot routing issues.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues.
- Troubleshoot Windows and Linux issues.
- Drive project and product and improvement plans to completion.
- Communicate status and priorities to the team and management.
- Identify cross-functional process gaps. Work to formulate project and product improvement plans.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of OSI Model.
- Network File Shares including Window/SAMBA/NFS.
- Knowledge of routing protocols.
- Test and troubleshoot network setup.
- Knowledge of DNS – Windows and BIND.
- In-depth knowledge of Networking: Routing and subnet masking. DHCP.
- Knowledge of routing- including RTT.
- Understanding of NTP.
- IP Addressing.
- Basic Scripting in either PowerShell or Bash.
- Document issues, installations, and troubleshooting steps.
- Microsoft Windows knowledge including user management, group policies, desktop configuration, static IP addressing and Windows Services.
- Linux knowledge, including run levels and daemons.
- Proficiency in using drafting software.
- Familiarity with Safety Regulations and Planning Requirements, particularly relating to network systems, preferably within airport environments.
- Ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects simultaneously.
- Thorough understanding of product life cycle from design through decommissioning, with emphasis on serviceability, reliability, and support.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent customer-relationship skills. Proven track record of delivering challenging engineering and services programs on schedule and on budget.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of technical information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Extensive experience with the technical requirements process from initial requirements definition (that address a specific customer or configuration need) through verification, validation, and field adoption.
- Experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Visio).
- Must be self-starter, work well without supervision, and accept responsibility.
- Ability to perform well in highly ambiguous situations/environments.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to form strong relationships.
- Military experience is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar.
- MCSE or equivalent.
- CCNA or equivalent.
- Active Directory experience.
- Knowledge of BSON/JSON/XML.
- Able to script in multiple languages.
- 5+ years of progressive work experience in a multi-disciplinary environment in network design, network operations, Technical Support, Product Support, or Field Operations.
- Understanding of database maintenance and replication.
- Advanced and current computer network experience – both hands-on and in-depth network design experience. Must include the ability to use advanced routing, security, and redundant routing protocols.
- Experience designing system configuration, directing system installation (in the field), defining, documenting, maintaining and enforcing system standards.

The total compensation for this position ranges from $97,998 - 161,697/yr (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, & abilities of the applicant and the alignment with the internal team & market data).
