Job Description
Job Function: Engineering Manager – Wet Seal System Standardization and Automation will report to the Director, Global Engineering WS/WSS, Function of this role is Managing all standardization and automation projects. Accountable for the complete ownership from concept to implementation of the WSS product portfolio configuration for pre and post order engineering. This includes GPN/GC standardization, standardization seal system components, layout, 3D models and CAD automation, engineering calculations for order execution engineering. Also provide Engineering support for Central expertise team and product line management team. Motivate and develop engineering teams and enable smooth operation of the business, facilitating growth, communication, evaluation of their performance and enhance their skill matrix, hiring of new employees & develop them on WSS Engineering. Additional duties will be assigned on Wet Seal Systems Engineering support for Pre & Post order engineering during peak load and this position may travel to other business location as needed.
Job location: This position is for Pune, Maharashtra.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead small teams of standardization & automation team for Wet Seal Systems Pre & Post order Engineering standardization.
- Accountable for overall Engineering KPI ‘s and focus on OTD, saving of Engg. Hrs through contribution of standardization & automation projects and Quality metrices of assigned Engineering standardization projects.
- Develop CAD architect, step by step automation logic, working with digital team for developing coding and algorithms for CAD / system automation project. Stagewise testing and implementation of the tool and dedicate to global & regional engineering teams.
- Training & developing to empower engineering team.
- Working directly with all internal stakeholders and align with them on Engineering Service Level to meet their expectations ensuring global coverage and time zone demands.
- I- Project – job management tool for seal system engineering as a global tool, Support for migration from I Project to any alternative Engineering project / job management software as directed by Engineering Solutions management.
- Responsible for standardized product offerings and introduce a cost-effective and time saving approach in designing support systems and achieving market leading product cost and lead time.
- Lead a group of few Engineers, Designer, capacity planning, job scheduling and driving timely quality output of system engineering
- Accountable for on time submission of Standard Layout or Frame agreement Engineering documents for OEM approval, Standard manufacturing drawings and Work instructions for Manufacturing.
- Distil best practices for achieving growth and help replicate best practices on a worldwide basis.
- Collaborating with the regional Engineering Managers in key customer engagements and technical alignment with customers and suppliers for Standard / Pre-engineered seal systems.
- Provide input to product line managers in identifying opportunities for product growth and new product innovation.
- Drive teams KPI and achieve Priority Action list projects of self and team members.
Specific duties, activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Accountable for successful implementation of Wet seal system Pre-Order & Post Order Engineering standardization and automation tools.
- KPI: On Time Submission of Engineering Deliverables and Quality as per Business Goal contributing to reduction in engg. Hrs (technical efficiency improvement).
- Preparing and maintain the daily dashboard, weekly and monthly reports as required to achieve the desired results.
- Co-ordinating with all the stakeholders and getting the right inputs as required to complete the task.
- Communicating within the team and with stakeholders for any improvements or changes as desired.
- Monitoring and Improving engineering process.
- Resolving customer issues to their overall satisfaction.
- Ensure that the company policies and followed and values practiced.

Qualifications
Position Requirements (Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- A Bachler or master’s degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline or natural science with 15+ years’ experience in technology development, engineering, or similar functions.
- At least 10+ year engineering experience with at least 5 + years of Supervisor / team leader experience
- Domain knowledge in process equipment and seal systems in Polymer, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Aerospace, Refinery and Turbomachinery areas
- Strong working knowledge of how the mechanical seal business and markets work, and how to create growth through engineering processes and products
- Good understanding of engineering process needed in design and operations, key business drivers and industry practices
- Excellent communication skills to articulate strategies and drive a coordinated action plan.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to prioritize and communicate clearly across all levels of the organization
- Ability to work in a deadline driven work environment, attention to detail, and multitasking are essential.
- Affinity with mechanical seal systems as essential technology in process industry
- An ability to work in an international environment with functional teams spread over various regions including corresponding willingness to travel
- Self-starter and highly motivated to achieve results with limited direct supervision.
- Excellent people skills and proven ability to lead a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, a proficiency in MS Office
Work Environment:
Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants repair facilities and global locations. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.
