Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Welding Engineer with expertise in robotic welding systems and proven supervisory experience to join our engineering team. This role is critical to developing and optimizing manual and automated welding processes to ensure product quality, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will lead welding projects, oversee production teams, and drive continuous improvement across all welding operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and optimize manual and robotic welding procedures, including WPS and PQR documentation in accordance with industry standards (AWS, ASME, ISO, API, etc.).
- Lead the setup, programming, and troubleshooting of robotic welding systems (e.g., ABB, Fanuc, KUKA, Motoman).
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of welders and welding technicians to ensure adherence to quality and production standards.
- Provide technical support and training to welding staff, including mentoring and performance evaluations.
- Analyze welding defects and failures; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams to ensure weldability and manufacturability of components.
- Oversee welding process audits and maintain full documentation of procedures and inspection records.
- Monitor productivity, welding performance, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all welding activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
- Participate in the selection, installation, and maintenance of welding equipment, including robotic cells.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) with welding input and process validation.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in welding engineering, including at least 2 years working with robotic welding systems.
- Proven supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Strong knowledge of welding codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME IX, ISO 3834, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with multiple welding processes: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW.
- Familiarity with robotic welding programming, fixture design, and cycle time optimization.
Preferred:
- Certifications such as Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- Experience in [industry – e.g., automotive, aerospace, oil & gas, heavy fabrication].
- Proficiency in CAD software and welding simulation tools (e.g., WeldSim, RoboDK).
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.

- Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- Results-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
Working Conditions:
- Combination of office and shop floor environment.
- Occasional travel to project sites, customer locations, or supplier facilities.
- Use of PPE is required when working in fabrication or production areas.
