Job Description
To ensure that the department gives the highest level of service possible to our customers to achieve maximum delivery performance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Picking:
- Ensure that all items requested on the Picking List and Service Orders picked correctly and timeously, paperwork is then signed, and all items issued out on SAP.
- All service orders to be taken to the assembly / service area.
- All breakdown orders are actioned immediately and closed within the stores area, so as to ensure they are ready for collection as requested by the customer.
- Close off all orders on the system as well as invoicing certain orders as requested.
- All stock problems are reported to the Service Operations Manager as soon as identified.
- All basic seal assemblies are completed within the stores area e.g. T502, T1A etc, while those requiring testing are sent to assembly.
Packing:
- Ensure all seals received from assembly / reconditioning are accompanied with all relevant documentation and are singed for.
- All seals received from assembly / reconditioning to be packed in suitable packaging or as per customer requirements
- Book all seals from assembly area in on SAP.
- Create bin locations for items received from assembly area on SAP.
- Ensure these items have a GR label on before binning in stores.
- Ensure that all goods ready for dispatch have been correctly picked and accompanied with correct Packing List. Check that all goods are identified and marked, and are then packed in a suitable container for shipment.
- Prior to the container being closed, verify that all documentation has been supplied and packed with the goods and that all special instructions have been adhered to.
- Record Packing Lists and Dispatch Notes being dispatched on the packing list register.
- Ensure that all goods leaving stores are accompanied by relevant paperwork and signed for.
- All POD’s to be recorded on the packing list register and sent to accounts
- Assist when courier collects goods for delivery.
- Ensuring that all special requirements for local, national, and international deliveries are adhered to.
- Driving of forklift to help load and offload goods when required.
- Assist customers with collections.
Receiving:
- Receive and sign for consignments.
- Ensure that all goods received are accompanied by relevant documentation.
- Ensure that the correct company details reflect on documents.
- Check that goods correspond with paperwork.
- Send paperwork to relevant departments e.g. Accounts, Purchasing, Stores.
- Check purchase order against goods received.
- Inspect all consignments for quality.
- Report all problems to Service Operations Manager.
- Book in consignments on SAP.
- Ensure that all goods going into stores have the GR label attached to it.
- Place all goods received in allocated Bin Locations in Main store.
- Create Bin Locations on SAP for all goods that do not have one.
- Liaise closely with all other departments especially procurement.
Other duties:
- Maintain Quality Approvals, including Health & Safety and Environmental within the work place.
- Assist and maintain LIFE initiatives, workflows and SOP’s.
- Assist with daily cycle counts and annual stock take.
- To ensure that the work place is kept clean and tidy at all times.
- Any other duties as may be required of you by your manager.
- Deliveries to Customers and ensure PODs are signed and returned.
Technician Duties:
- Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor or management team.
- Aid and support to other departments as required.
- Support KZN Sales when required, with customer technical backup and support on all John Crane products.
- Assist the KZN Sales team with product installation, fault finding & root cause investigations on customers sites where this support is required or requested.
- Seals and couplings are properly stripped and cleaned, and the reconditioning report is completed indicating all the spares required for the repair.
- Should a failure report be requested you would be required to liaise with the engineering department to obtain this information.
- All basic seal assemblies are completed within the stores area e.g. T502, T1A etc., while those requiring testing are sent to assembly.
- Once an order has been received you will have to liaise with the appropriate internal departments to ensure that the customer receives his goods by the required date and to the required specification.
- To make sure that the seals are correctly tested prior to dispatch.
- To assist reps and customers in identifying and replacing seals/couplings with a John Crane alternative.
- At all times the workplace is kept clean and tidy.
- Ensure that all items requested on the Picking List, and Service Orders picked correctly and timeously, paperwork is then signed, and all items issued out on SAP.
- All assembly and service orders to be taken to the assembly / service area.
- All “Rush Orders” orders are actioned immediately and closed within the stores area, to ensure they are ready for delivery / collection as requested by the customer.
- Ensure all seals received from assembly / reconditioning are accompanied with all relevant documentation and are signed for.
- All seals received from assembly / reconditioning to be packed in suitable packaging or as per customer requirements or according to John Crane standards.
- Book all seals and couplings from assembly area in on SAP.
- Any other duties as may be required of you by your manager.
Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12, SAQA NQF Level 4
- Intermediate MS Office skills.
- SAP Experience
- Forklift License
- Fitter & Turner
- Red Seal Certification

- Excellent planning and time-management skills
- Results driven, both individually and within team
- Ability to work independently daily and be a strong “team player” within a sales/commercial team
