Job Description
Smiths Detection is seeking a highly motivated 2025 Summer Intern to join our Systems Engineering team. As a Systems Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working with cutting-edge technologies in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will assist with the verification and understanding of product system requirements to validate the documentation of complex systems, contributing to various stages of system lifecycle management.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Job duties to include but are not limited to;
- Support the preparation of technical documentation, including system specifications, test plans, and requirements analysis.
- Participate in system performance analysis, and troubleshooting activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware and software engineers, to ensure system components meet requirements.
- Help with the identification and resolution of system issues, providing technical support where needed.
- Contribute to research and development efforts related to system design and improvement.
- Participate in team meetings, presenting updates on progress and findings.
Qualifications
Education: Degree-track undergraduate or graduate student in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience: Basic understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management.
Knowledge skills/other attributes:
- Ability to work in matrixed environment with different profession types (i.e. engineers, software developers, project mangers, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in team settings.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; experience with data processing tools desirable.
- US Citizen preferred; ability to pass a background check and security vetting required

The compensation for this position ranges from $15.00 - $35.00/hr and will vary depending on factors including level of school completed and type of position requirements for skills, whether technical or non-technical.
