Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers and provide engineering/technical oversight for the team.
  • Accountable for overall Engineering KPI ‘s, on time delivery and quality.
  • Responsible for engineering deliverables of team including repair drawings, processes or instructions while maintaining quality.
  • Drive knowledge and information sharing across the global teams.
  • Drive team and departmental enablement projects.
  • Training and development of team.
  • Review & processing of stakeholder Project Requests.
  • Follow standard application & design engineering techniques and procedures to select, apply, design and draft wet seal products to repair or replace seals.
  • Where necessary, liaise with Global Engineering Product Groups and other SMEs to provide ‘Right first time’ design solutions.
  • Perform or verify basic engineering calculations as required to validate design or create new designs. Familiarity with web calcs an advantage.
  • Provide engineering support post assembly or installation as required.
  • Basic use of FEA tools like CSTEDY & similar tools for simple design analysis an advantage.
  • Design of wet seal products using 2 & 3D CAD techniques necessary (Solid Edge preferred).
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and assembly techniques required.

  • Drive and track performance in applications engineering (Orders and Proposals)
  • Smiths Excellence System Tier Reporting
  • Ensure Regional Engineering drives use of Automatization.
  • Meet ‘People’ objectives including Staff Attrition, Talent Development, Diversity, and support My Say and the Smiths Leadership Behaviours.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in engineering (Preferably Mechanical / chemical / Industrial / Production) with relevant typical experience of 8+ years in engineering.
  • Supervision or people management experience preferred. Typically, 2+ years (Grade will be based on candidate knowledge, experience etc.).
  • Strong mechanical seal design and application knowledge along with seal systems and plans.
  • Sound engineering knowledge in areas including design, materials, fluid mechanics and engineering drawings.
  • Pump and process plant knowledge is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of competitor products is an advantage.
  • An ability to work in an international environment with functional teams spread over various regions.
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven work environment, attention to detail, and multitasking are essential.
  • Self-starter and highly motivated to achieve results with limited direct supervision.
  • Excellent people skills and proven ability to lead a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, a proficiency in MS Office.
  • Experience of reverse engineering an advantage in terms of drawing/design work but also hands on measurement techniques.
