Job Description

Duties:

  • Design and modeling of the application and system architecture to meet the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Elaboration of the vision and architecture roadmap as part of the global software solution of Smiths and writing of the associated documents.
  • Support to the product and project managers during the definition of the product and technological roadmaps, analysis, and evaluation of the load.
  • Harmonization and industrialization of all the components and applications that are part of the solution. Guarantees the interfacing with other systems.
  • Take charge of architecture and platform-oriented development projects. Set up and standardize development tools and platforms.
  • Evangelization and coaching of development teams to promote best practices in development.
  • Technology watch to anticipate and identify useful and relevant IT innovations.
  • Capitalization of technical knowledge related to IT.

 

         Planning and Decision Making:

 

  • Works on complex digital issues where the analysis of situations or data requires a thorough evaluation of variable factors.
  • Works to achieve predetermined, long-term goals and objectives based on the marketing roadmap.
  • Responsible for designing digital workflows for X-ray systems, as well as developing interfaces, and implementing them internally or externally based on strategic capabilities:

- Requirements capture and management

- IT system architecture and design

- IT system validation and verification

  • Estimation and analysis of tenders (response to calls for tender) on the digital part upstream to estimate costs and solutions
  • Propose a breakdown of the allocation of skills and know-how internally and externally (5-year road map with business / needs)

 

           Impact and Scope: 

  • The decision has a direct impact on the strategy and revenues of Global Ports and Borders (30M€/year), and guides the technical work and decisions of 20-30 people.
  • Problem solving is at the global market level, for the entire product portfolio 
  • Directly influences Global Ports and Borders strategy, critical delays, revenue loss up to >5m€ and reputational impact.

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education requirements:

  • Must possess at least a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering and/or Computer Engineering/Science or equivalent

Knowledge

  • More than 15 years of experience in the IT industry including architect, lead developer, scrum master or team leader.
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, microservices architecture, data structure, algorithms, systems architecture.
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages (C/C++/C#) .NET Core OR (Java, Spring Framework) OR Proficiency in one or more frontend framework (HTML5 / CSS3 / JavaScript / Angular / React / D3 / jQuery) OR Java SE/EE, Swing, JSF/Primefaces, Motif, OpenGL.
  • Understanding and working experience with REST APIs.
  • Good knowledge of SQL/No-SQL databases, PostgreSQL is preferred.
  • Must have worked on Linux OR Windows software development environments.
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodologies and Pair Programming.
  • Knowledge of Coding Standards, version management (Git/Bit bucket or similar), Build Process, Packaging, DevOps and CI/CD.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams and projects at any given time.
  • Ability to quickly learn complex software, system and technology.
  • Leveraging and contributing to Open Source projects.
  •  Knowledge of open source tool chains and technologies.
  • Mastery of the risks related to information security.
  • Initiated to project management techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Competence and Abilities:

  • Good knowledge of application architectures.
  • Good technical knowledge of different operating systems, virtualization and containerization solutions, databases (relational and not), networks and storage solutions.
  • Knowledge of issues related to big data and information processing (machine learning in particular)
  • Rigorous and with a spirit of synthesis, you know how to conduct a critical analysis and present the essential on a given subject in a logic of recommendation.
  • You can make proposals in relation to the needs expressed.
  • As a communicator, you have excellent interpersonal skills and a good understanding of internal strategic power relations.
  • Passionate about technology, you are aware of the trends in the IT market.
  • Pedagogical, you know how to explain the architecture to the teams working on the project.
  • In relation with the technical direction, the providers, and the project managers, you must show a spirit of negotiation and know how to convince
