Job Description
This role is part of the Edgewood Quality team. As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you are responsible for product quality on assigned programs to ensure that customer contract requirements are fulfilled. You will routinely liaise with internal Engineering, Sales, Supply Chain, and Operations departments.
- Communication of Supplier issues to site Quality, Production and Purchasing.
- Review and management of Supplier changes to assess product quality impact.
- Liaising with Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers and other functional technical groups within Smiths.
- Support Supplier sourcing and selection
- Assess Supplier and company product specifications and customer requirements.
- Facilitate Corrective and Preventive Actions of Supplier Quality related issues.
- Monitor supplied product performance through gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports in order to identify supplier performance opportunities
- Approximately 60-80% travel, including international travel required
- Conduct both QMS system and process audits to assess Suppliers against Smiths Detection requirements
- Work with Quality staff to establish quality requirements for the external supply chain.
- Provide Quality Assurance and technical guidance to Suppliers as required.
- Drive measurable improvement throughout the supply base
- Help suppliers resolve problems with mechanical, electrical, and materials issues
- Conduct supplier performance analysis and management utilizing supplier non-conformance data with the expectation of achieving and maintaining GREEN level status
Qualifications
Education/training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent; ASQ-CQE and/or sufficient education and experience to effectively perform the duties)
- ASQ-Certified Quality Auditor a plus
- Lean six sigma green belt certified a plus.
Experience:
- 5 years minimum experience in quality assurance within a high-technology manufacturing environment
- Experience in electro-mechanical systems manufacture is preferred
- Strong capabilities in quality planning and analysis, statistical tools and data analysis
- Experience with, and good knowledge of ISO 9001 or higher.
- Environmental management systems around ISO 14001 experience an asset.
- Previous experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment is desirable.
Knowledge/skills:
- Excellent oral and written communications.
- Strong analytical approach, ability to facilitate team process problem solving with strong interpersonal skills.
- Fluent with Word, Excel, Power Point or Visio and SAP ERP.
- Experience with management system implementation, process mapping and flowcharting.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

This position may require Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and vetting via the TSA. If required, applicant must successfully pass a federal background investigation. This position may require a U.S. Personal Security Clearance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The individual’s primary workplace is located in the Edgewood production facility there are no exposures to unusual elements.
- The individual is chartered to work closely with unionized production associates which necessitates being mindful of the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement – including respecting Union work.
- This position requires access to ITAR, EAR, and Department of State or Department of Commerce controlled information and routine access to a cleared facility. Applicant must be a U.S. Person (citizen, green card holder or other permanent resident or protected resident).

The compensation for this position ranges from $88,227- $132,341/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
