Job Purpose

The Cook supports the culinary team of the Skechers Café by preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, ensuring high-quality and flavorful meals for our customers. This position maintains safety and freshness standards while providing hands-on support in maintaining a clean, compliant, and efficient kitchen. The Cook will play a key role in maintaining a positive dining experience, contributing to the overall success of our kitchen.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a diverse range of dishes, adhering to established recipes and quality standards
• Ensure all food items are prepared, cooked, and presented with precision and attention to detail
• Collaborate with the kitchen team to plan and execute daily menus, taking into consideration dietary restrictions and preferences
• Monitor and manage inventory levels of ingredients and kitchen supplies, prompting orders as needed
• Maintain food safety standards and Skechers’ standards for freshness
• Adhere to proper cooking techniques, food handling procedures, and health regulations
• Assist in training new kitchen staff members
• Stay updated on culinary trends and industry best practices
• Operate a variety of kitchen equipment
• Ensure equipment in work area is clean and in proper working condition 
• Maintain a clean, organized work area
• Treat all management and fellow team-members with respect to support a healthy and positive team environment
• Comply with the Skechers Café uniform guidelines and maintain a professional presence
• Other duties to be assigned by management

Job Requirements

• Knowledge of various cooking techniques, cuisines, and food presentation
• Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a kitchen setting
• Valid California Food Handler Certification
• Attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality food
• Strong knife skills
• Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
• Able to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, policies, procedures, and operating or maintenance instructions
• Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Able to carry out instructions furnished in written oral, or diagram form
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, quick-moving environment
• Able to work overtime hours when necessary
• Able to work on-site

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Culinary degree or relevant certification preferred
• Proven experience as a cook in a restaurant or similar setting
• Must have experience working in a professional kitchen

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk; sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel. The employee is occasionally required to sit for long period of times.

Pay range for this position is $26-$28/hr
