Job Description

Partner with Director of Merchandising and Design and Women’s Senior Apparel Designer in the creation of Women’s Skechers Apparel from concept to production. Support the design and development process by executing innovative design solutions, providing color direction, fabric/finish, print and pattern, trim, and fit intent for all of Women’s.

Essential Job Results-

  • In partnership with the Women’s Senior Designer, influence direction and identify seasonal silhouette and product classifications needed in the assortment plan that reflect a balance between fashion and trend for core and emerging businesses.  Partner with Merchandisers in presenting concepts and gaining alignment to build styles into seasonal line plan.
  • Participate in Color Palette creation based on Concept, and ensure approvals are aligned with all collection components and prints, creating a cohesive product assortment that is visually enticing to our customer.
  • Initiate creative direction for seasonal print/pattern.  Partner with Graphic Designers to ensure timely execution and accurate aesthetic based on initial design intent for artwork direction.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of tech pack creation and handoff to tech designers. 
  • Partner with Product Development team by initiating and developing fabrics, trims, and prints that achieve costing and aesthetic goals for the season.
  • Partner with Tech Design in initiating any needed fit analysis for seasonal development. In addition, attend weekly fittings to provide design fit intent and aesthetic point of view at each proto stage of the development process.
  • Partner with Tech Design and PD to approve fits to PP; understand garment engineering in order to best achieve the quality/value proposition for our customer and drive to exceptional fit consistency in our product.
  • Communicate with overseas and internal partners on trends, details and updates as changes occur in the assortment. 
  • Present at seasonal assortment reviews in collaboration with product development, merchandising, and tech design. 
  • Continue to expand and perfect an efficient and compelling design presentation format that ties product between design, development, marketing and sales.
  • Work efficiently to meet all gates, following our calendar, promoting productivity whilst minimizing risks of delay or cancellations.
  • Attend and participate in hindsight meetings with an analytical mind to proactively understand results and identify opportunities. Build this data in to concept and creative strategy.
  • Well-versed on emerging fashion trends and new technological advancements (in fabric, fibers, sustainability, health & well-being, tech, etc.) in alignment with Skechers Active Lifestyle sensibility.
  • Research on a quarterly basis for inspiration, for Vendor On-sites for Product Development, Line Reviews and Innovation Kick Offs.
  • Build strong, dynamic and synergistic relationships with cross-functional partners: Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, Tech Design, PD, and Production.

Additional Responsibilities-

  • Collaborate and be involved with line plan creation and assortment with access to sales reports to inform the design.
  • Participate in crafting the Creative Direction for Women’s Apparel seasonal Design.
  • Participate in outlining the creative direction and art direction for women’s apparel for graphics and prints and ensure a cohesive story.
  • Partnership with Sales with the goal of fully being in tune with business goals and sales history and translate this information to design strategy to achieve business goals.
  • Bring seasonally appropriate and customer centered new ideas that create excitement for the Brand.

Job Requirements-

  • Strong Design Ability with an excellent fashion radar and color sensibility.
  • Proven leader with a standard of excellence in creativity and technical expertise.
  • Clear communicator with effective presentation skills, an entrepreneurial mind.
  • Ability to follow, manage and hit key milestone dates along the Apparel Division Master Time and Action Calendar.
  • Strong Adobe Illustrator and Photo Shop skills are required.
  • Computer proficiency; Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), PLM (Product Life Management) system.

Education and Experience- 

  • BA Degree from a college/university in the field of Design, Apparel Design, Technical Design.
  • 5 years of experience in Women’s Apparel Design.
  • Practical design experience with the ability to show work and accomplishments.
  • Adaptable to a change with the ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

The employee is occasionally required to sit for long period of times.  The employee is regularly required to lift a 35 - 40lb dress form for garment evaluations.
