Job Description

The Tech Designer is responsible developing the fit of garments, while meeting design and fit intent from initial sketch review through to final fit approval for production. Additionally, the Tech Designer must ensure that Skechers quality standards for construction and workmanship are communicated and obtained throughout the development process. Work is to be executed through an established process, utilizing systems and adhering to seasonal development calendar.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Design to ensure the design and fit direction is clear and achievable.
  • Translate Design sketch into accurate initial specs for the development sample.
  • Utilization and maintenance of block library and construction standards.
  • Provide technical leadership in all fittings; ensure clarity on design and fit intent.
  • Accurately translate direction from fittings into technical written comments.
  • Clear verbal and written communication with internal and external partners to clarify fit direction or seasonal fit strategy.
  • Partner with internal and external partners to ensure the desired product and timelines are achieved.
  • Ensure Brands standards are applied and produced each season; size/grade, workmanship, construction and aesthetics.
  • Maintain and create block and standards library for each product category owned.
  • Creation and management of support documentation for standards, as needed.
  • Daily maintenance of seasonal tracking logs.
  • Develop and manage block patterns as needed for specific product categories
  • Manage and communicate components of pattern block libraries.

Job Requirements

  • Five + years in the apparel industry in a Technical Design position.
  • Technical knowledge of garment construction and manufacturing operations; machinery, stitches, threads
  • Men’s knit and woven experience required
  • Mechanical knowledge of apparel grade; movement and proportion
  • Intermediate knowledge of patternmaking and concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to mentally complete basic mathematical computations
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a multi-task environment with a sense of urgency to meet development and production timelines.
  • Strives to increase productivity; looks for ways to improve and promote quality and process.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in proactive, problem-solving.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design/Apparel Engineering/Pattern Making or equivalent training combined with work experience.
  • Computer Applications: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook. PowerPoint), Illustrator preferred but not required. Gerber Accumark PDS, Gerber Version 8.4 –V10 and PLM experience is a plus.
