The Associate designer will specialize in the knits category focusing on silhouette/ fabric/ wash direction and will work closely with Graphic Designer/ Sr. Apparel Designer to paint up styles with artwork/ embellishments etc.   Has a good sense of knit fabrications: jerseys, French terry, fleece etc.  and wash treatments.  The Associate Designer is up to date on latest fashion/ graphic trends. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS

• Design Knit bodies: Jersey, French terry, fleece bodies that are trend right for the season- “Graphic vehicles”
• Work with development on materials, washes, treatments, embellishments
• Partner with Graphic Designer on applying graphics to knit offering.
• Mindful of material composition, price points, leveraging etc.
• Create all "mill sheets” which call out all-over print details, custom trim, and fabric specifications (ex: yarn dye stripe or space dye color combos)
• Create Bill of Material in Flex (web based program)
• Work with technical department to create new fits.  Attend weekly fittings and make sure fit is consistent
• Shop market, stay on top of all graphic/ knit trends.  Pull competitive shopping reports

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work on SMU projects for Wholesale and Retail
• Comment on all submits pertaining to their designs: lab dips, trims, and graphic strike offs
• Other duties as assigned

• Occasionally work with intern on keeping material library organized and commenting on submits

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Strong color perception and design ability 
• Strong working knowledge of garment construction, fit, and fabrication
• Ability to understand the needs of and develop product resonating with Skechers Performance Apparel’s target market 
• Strong verbal and written communication skills 
• Exceptional time management skills 
• Experienced with seasonal color, trend and theme research, and interpretation 
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Team Player

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• BA degree or advanced degree in specific design discipline desired 
• 2-3 years design experience 
• Strong Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Skills required
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required
