To ensure our success, we are looking for a results focussed Product Manager with proven experience of marketing and development and a great understanding of the maritime market and its requirements.
Job Description
We’re a new tech start-up, and have recently received grant funding to take our technology to shipping, in partnership with University College London. This is a project to deliver behavioural feedback on board ships that travel the world, and understanding the factors which affect behaviour change on board a variety of ships (eg container, cruise and tankers) to save fuel, enhance safety, and improve well-being.
As our new Maritime PM you will:
- Be the lead management point for our project working with the maritime sector.
- Manage relations and the project with UCL and some of the world’s largest shipping companies
- Be responsible for all reporting to funders, colleagues and partners.
- Be the first point of contact for customer queries and be able to offer support or information on product and services.
- Work closely with our partners to ensure they are satisfied with our service provision and to improve upon areas of dissatisfaction.
- Develop customer relationships that promote retention and loyalty.
- Help design and develop our user onboarding strategy and framework
- Provide customer support for bugs, alerts or system health. You’ll always be there for them to reach out to.
- Renewing the contract to ensure we keep going and providing value
- Upsell and communicate new product features to partners and customers, whilst working with the core team to develop testing strategies.
- Check in on the health of customers and partners
- Advocate for the customer.
- Travel. An ability to react quickly to new timezones and cultures.
- Ensure a clear understanding of deadlines and deliverables between Signol, partners and/or customers, and that the teams are coordinated efficiently.
Qualifications
To complete all the deliverables, the ideal candidate will have:
- A basic understanding of Shipping
- An understanding of maritime communications products, technology and their application
- To be able to understand data
- To be experienced working with academics
- min. Master's degree
- To be willing and able to travel across Europe, Asia and Pacific North America
- To be seaworthy to an extent to be able to make short voyages on board vessels
- To be a great communicator who is proactive and has experience in Project Management and Business Development with evidence of commercial success
- Superb problem solving skills, great organisation, patience, customer and colleague empathy; and an alignment of mission - profit with purpose.
- The ability to manage a diverse team of employees and collaborators, many of them working remotely or internationally;
- The ability to deal with ambiguity, and respond flexibly to changes, in a fast paced, international environment.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to non-specialists both internally and externally.
- An open-minded and diverse perspective
Desired qualities include:
- Great written and verbal skills.
- An interest in the environment
- Familiarity with research trials
- Experience in Account Management and customer service with large, international firms.
- Knowledge and experience in automating processes internally.
- An interest in understanding how to change human behaviour, and the benefits it can provide to employees and the environment.

- Salary: £32-46k per annum
