Job Description

Our Finance team keeps accounting accurate, tax compliant, and financial reporting transparent across the group. As Team Lead Accounting & Tax, you'll lead a team of three (AR, AP, and GL Accountants) and take ownership of our closing processes, the audits behind them, and our tax filings. You'll report to our Head of Finance, working closely with our CFO on tax and audit topics.

Day to day, you'll be working in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, and since we're a lean multinational setup with small subsidiaries, you'll also get some exposure to intercompany reconciliation and group reporting. What we're really looking for is someone who doesn't just close the books, but asks how we could close them better. Someone with a genuine drive for automation and process improvement, who's ready to challenge us and be challenged; to keep getting better, together.

The essence of your role

  • Team leadership: Lead, develop, and organise the day-to-day work of your three-person accounting team (AR, AP, GL); workload distribution, quality oversight, and acting as their first point of escalation.
  • Month-end close & group reporting: Oversee thel month-end close (accruals, prepaid expenses, recurring contract bookings, FX adjustments, balance sheet reconciliations, P&L quality checks) and manage consolidated financial reporting across the group, including intercompany reconciliation and reporting packages for subsidiaries.
  • Tax compliance: Ensure the timely and accurate completion of tax compliance tasks and deadlines; VAT advance returns, corporate income tax filings (Jahreserklärung), and coordination with external tax advisors.
  • Audit: Act as the primary contact for our annual statutory audit; preparation, fieldwork coordination, and resolution of findings.
  • Process improvement & automation: Drive automation and efficiency within the accounting function, spot manual bottlenecks in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and fix them, including through AI tooling; and support ad-hoc financial analysis for strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

This is what you need to succeed

  • Several years of experience in accounting within a German HGB environment; including some initial experience directly leading or supervising a team.
  • Solid working knowledge of German tax obligations (UStG, KStG). You don't need to be a tax advisor, but you know what's due when, and can coordinate confidently with external advisors.
  • A track record of driving process improvement or automation; you've spotted a bottleneck, changed a process, or introduced a tool (with or without AI) that made work smarter, and you want to keep doing that here.
  • Structured, reliable, and detail-oriented; you take ownership of deadlines without being chased.
  • Fluent in German and English (C1+), both written and spoken.
