Job Description

Serpa Packaging Solutions is seeking a production leader to join the team! As a Machine Shop Manager, you will oversee the fabrication operations of parts and components for packaging machinery manufactured by the company. This person will be responsible for leading, managing, and directing the Machine Shop team consisting of machinists, welders, fabricators, drill press operators, and more. He or she will develop schedules and work closely with his or her team to coordinate the proper implementation of required tasks at hand.

Your Tasks

  • Supervise and provide instruction to staff of Machine Shop department.
  • Proper personnel management of department, which includes interviewing, hiring, promotions, disciplining, and termination.
  • Organize machine shop activities to support cost reduction targets, on-time, and quality shipment of all Serpa Packaging Equipment to exceed customer expectations.
  • Participate in evaluation of new customer/business opportunities; support concurrent engineering activities to drive New Business growth.
  • Organize and assign appropriate schedules to ensure effective use of personnel and resources
  • Maintain required quality levels and adhere to Serpa’s accepted manufacturing standards.
  • Support root cause analysis of quality issues and responsible for implementing corrective actions.
  • Optimize the fabrication shop’s effectiveness in achieving company-wide objectives in alignment with budget and timelines.
  • Develop a strong relationship with Serpa Packaging customers through customer service, knowledge of equipment and good communication skills.
  • Collect and process machine shop data, diagnose problems with equipment, and facilitate corrective processes as needed.
  • Ensure proper training to staff is provided, as well as ensure proper machining and safety practices are being followed.

Qualifications

  • Supervisor/Management experience preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude and have blueprint reading experience
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Understanding of budget control
  • Effective verbal & written communication/negotiation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively develop schedules and meet production deadlines

Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform job duties that may require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, and working in cramped spaces.
  • Ability to lift supplies and materials up to 25 pounds.
