Job Description

Serpa Packaging Solutions is seeking a skilled CNC Programmer/Machinist to join the team! This member will be in a dual role where he or she will develop CNC mill programs and operate CNC vertical mill machinery for the fabrication of custom, high-quality parts.     Responsibilities

    • Program, set up and operate CNC vertical mill equipment. Develop CNC programs by translating instructions into CAM program (SurfCAM) for mills based on engineering drawings and models.
    • Receive instruction and training from senior CNC Programmer. Willingness to also provide instruction and participate in training for incoming CNC mill machinists.
    • Analyze drawings, blueprints, and design data in order to calculate correct part dimension for machines, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates.
    • Load parts, proving tapes, cycle machines, operating controls, setting offsets, simple edits, and inspection of quality parts for conformance to production requirements.
    • Study and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
    • Read instrumentation and gauges to accurately measure dimensions on parts that are being machined within a .001 tolerance.
    • Measures and marks dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining.
    • Select proper tools and ensure efficient machining production to meet production schedule needs.
    • Monitor output and proper operation of mechanical equipment.
    • Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures and gauges to check work.
    • Recommend and make mechanical adjustments to ensure parts are meeting quantity and quality requirements.
    • Follow and maintain a safe and clean working environment.
    • Understand and meet company quality and rework standards and objectives to fulfill customers’ needs.
    • Work collaboratively with other CNC programmer(s), machinists, supervisor, and managers.
    • Share process and quality improvement recommendations, and support approved improvement procedures.
    • Flexibility to assist machinists in other areas of the operation if needed.​

    Qualifications

    • Experience programming and operating CNC mill machinery.
    • Able to select proper tooling and machining resources for accurate parts manufacturing.
    • Able to proficiently use measuring tools and gauges for measurement purposes.
    • Blueprint parts reading capabilities. Proficient mathematical skills.
    • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Able to work well under own initiative and in a team environment.
    • Able to follow workplace policies to ensure a healthy, safe, and productive environment

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped spaces
    • Physical effort that may include the lifting of supplies and materials that weigh up to 20 pounds
