Job Description
Purpose of Role:
Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering & Facilities Manager. We are seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician to provide efficient, reliable mechanical and electrical maintenance support across site facilities, plant, and equipment. The role ensures that all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory and company standards, minimizing downtime and supporting continuous operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct planned, preventative and reactive maintenance mechanical, electrical and facilities.
- Diagnose faults and undertake timely repairs to minimize operational disruption.
- Support breakdown response and minimize equipment downtime.
- Assist with installation, setup, and commissioning of new machinery.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and service logs.
- Maintain and service machinery, plant, and building services.
- Maintain electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, control panels, and PLCs.
Engineering Maintenance
- Competent electrical/mechanical fault finding.
- Knowledge of PLC systems advantageous
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills on the job.
- Valid driver’s license
Facilities Maintenance
- Maintain site infrastructure including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire systems, and building fabric.
- Support minor construction, refurbishment, and installation projects.
- Monitor and maintain utility systems (water, gas, compressed air, power, etc.).
- Ensure safe operation of boilers, air handling units, and refrigeration systems (where applicable).
Compliance & Safety
- Work in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and statutory inspections.
- Complete permits to work and lock-out/tag-out procedures when required.
- Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
Planning & Documentation
- Accurately complete maintenance records, job sheets, and service reports.
- Update Maintenance Management System records (excel based)
- Assist in developing maintenance schedules and improvement plans.
- Identify recurring faults and recommend corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement
- Suggest and implement improvements to equipment reliability and energy efficiency.
- Support lean manufacturing and reliability initiatives.
- Assist in root cause analysis for breakdowns.
- Support new equipment installations and commissioning.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to machinery, noise, and varying environmental conditions.
- Requirement to work at height and in confined spaces.
- Use of PPE as required.
Qualifications
- Recognised Engineering Qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Electrical Preferred)
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, excel, word, PowerPoint.
- Experience in a maintenance or facilities engineering role.
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience in an automotive manufacturing or industrial setting
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics,
- Experience maintenance tracking systems.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- IOSH or NEBOSH awareness.
- F-Gas certification.
- Forklift / IPAF certification.
- Welding or fabrication skills
