Job Description

The Technical Operations & Quality Lead will be responsible for overseeing and managing all technical operations related to the calibration laboratory and ensuring that operations align with company objectives, regulatory standards, and customer expectations. This role will also require identifying, developing, and leading the implementation of new technical processes, tools, and systems to improve the company’s operations. The individual will play a strategic leadership role in driving efficiency, improving productivity, and ensuring high-quality standards across technical departments, while also managing a diverse team of technical professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Laboratory Operations: Lead the daily operations of the calibration laboratory, ensuring all calibration activities are carried out following established standards, quality assurance protocols, and customer requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving laboratory processes, reducing downtime, optimizing workflows, and implementing new technologies or systems to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Compliance and Quality Management: Ensure the laboratory operations comply with relevant standards and regulatory requirements (such as ISO 17025). Conduct regular audits and reviews to maintain compliance and address any potential non-conformities.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Oversee the laboratory’s budget, manage operational costs, and ensure efficient use of resources. Work closely with senior management to forecast resource needs.
  • Technical Strategy and Innovation: Develop and implement technical strategies to meet business growth objectives, enhance customer service, and maintain a competitive edge in the calibration industry.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with key clients, ensuring that technical operations meet customer specifications and service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments (such as Sales, Marketing, and Business Operations) to align technical initiatives with overall company goals and strategies.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure laboratory safety standards are adhered to, fostering a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Reporting: Provide regular reports to senior management regarding the performance of technical operations, including key performance indicators (KPIs), challenges, and progress on improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: At least 7-10 years of experience in a technical or engineering role, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a leadership position overseeing technical operations.
  • Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (such as COREN, ISO 17025, Six Sigma, etc.) would be an advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management skills
    • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
    • In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, calibration standards, and quality management systems
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to drive operational efficiency and process improvements
    • Knowledge of budgeting and resource management
    • Familiarity with the latest technology trends in calibration and testing.
