Job Description

  • Plan and construct layout of tools and dies from Engineering, Tool Design, and/or Methods documents
  •  Review Methods documents to ensure producibility of tool or die and provide estimates of labor hours for construction as required
  • Determine and order the raw materials required to build tool or die
  • Assemble tools and dies using and interpreting a variety of precision measurement equipment to ensure compliance with Engineering specifications
  •  Troubleshoot and coordinate with Engineering, Tool Design, Production, and/or Methods to resolve problems pertaining to the successful construction of a tool or die design

Qualifications

  • Typically 7 years conventional machining, sheet metal, fabrication, or related experience, which must include 5 years experience in tool and die construction
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering, Methods, and Tool Design documents
  • Ability to use and interpret a variety of precision measurement instruments
  • Ability to set-up and operate various shop machines, for example mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, table routers, power hand tools, and heat treat oven
  • Mechanical skills
  • Basic knowledge of safety requirements for tool and die construction
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of individuals and departments
  • Basic knowledge of trigonometry, geometry, and algebra
  • Working knowledge of tool and die construction and required machinery, equipment, and raw materials
