Job Description
The Senior Conveyor Systems Engineer is responsible for leading conveyor system layout, analysis, and implementation within a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. This role supports system design, contractor coordination, installation activities, and launch performance to ensure operational efficiency and production readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Lead layout development, including cording and conveyor system integration
Perform engineering studies including:
Chain pull analysis
Drive and vertical curve studies
Cycle time analysis
Identify and select optimal conveyor system solutions, including:
Skillet conveyors
Power & Free (P&F) and Inverted P&F
Friction Drive Systems
AGVs
Electro Monorail Systems (EMS)
Pedestal conveyors
Spirals, Vertical Delivery Lines (VDL), and Continuous Vertical Conveyors
Review and approve contractor drawings to ensure compliance with engineering and industry standards
Provide installation support and on-site coordination as needed
Track, analyze, and report launch metrics including:
Cycle time adherence
First-time quality
Downtime
Throughput performance
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience in logistics or manufacturing engineering
Minimum of 15 years of experience in automotive manufacturing
Minimum of 10 years of conveyor installation experience
Strong knowledge of conveyance systems, automation, and structural standards used within the automotive industry
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel for layout development.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting vehicle launches, retooling, or model change programs
Experience with external logistics methodologies
Working knowledge of throughput simulation, cycle time analysis, and optimization techniques
