Job Description

The successful candidates will be responsible for upgrading the automotive conveyor systems and controls for a UK Automotive OEM. This requires experience in PLC software, ideally within the automotive sector such as conveyor systems or robots. You will be able to define the architecture, the technical specifications, scope & planning of the modifications to the current production system, leading the process from the technical specifications to RFQ to the selection of suppliers. No PLC programming is planned, although the engineers need to be able to read, correct and optimise the programme if required by the customer and management of the supplier. The second part is the supervision and management of on-site of the suppliers, during the commissioning phase for hardware and software modification at the migration to the new system.

Responsibilities (on-site) 

  • Initialisation, concept design, spec definition, RFQ, supplier management  
  • Project management of costs, deadlines and quality of work
  • Investigation of all technical requirements for new and modified systems
    • Modifications of PLC systems
    • Extensions of electrical panels
    • Development of electrical controls concepts
  • Propose and evaluate technical alternatives in presentations and development of decision matrix
  • Verify and evaluate the received technical documents from third parties
  • Interfaces to any other system (process, IT, conveyor, etc.)
  • Coordinating electrical component usage
  • Preparation of technical specification and any other necessary documents
  • Preparation and participation in project meetings
  • Technical and commercial offer evaluation for all RFQ’s
  • Technical support and follow-up of Automation suppliers progress
  • Organizing and reporting all acceptance activities
  • Defining corrective actions request and follow up of open issues
  • Performing technical acceptance checks together with all involved parties

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Ideally: BEng/BSC in engineering 
  • Required: Minimum national level 5 (HND) education or completed apprentice course in relevant field
  • - At least 2 years of project experience as an electrical engineer in the field of conveyors controls
  • Familiar with the GM/Opel Vauxhall / PSA Automation Standards highly advantageous
  • Familiar with hardware design and PLC (Rockwell and/or Siemens)
  • Good knowledge of electrical and PLC engineering (programming ability not mandatory)
  • Well-founded knowledge of the processes and automation systems used in automotive conveyance systems technical background in robotics & automation  
  • Experience in plant floor systems  
  • Quality management/monitoring in system level  
  • Experience in error-proofing systems / Andon systems  
  • Controls Engineering software (EPLAN P8, Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio5000 & RSNetworx, etc.).  
  • Experience Project management of complex natured projects with multiple stakeholders (local and remote)

OUTSIDE IR35 up to £30 per hour 

or 

Fixed Term PAYE - ASAP - December 2022, with potential for permanent employment

Pay Range: £32,000 - £42,000 - depending on experience 

Mandatory: Unrestricted Right to Work in the UK, no sponsorship provided, valid driving license and ability to travel within Europe and within the UK, COVID legislation permitting.
