Job Description

We are hiring a senior‑level software engineer to contribute to and evolve our Trust Infrastructure platform, with an initial focus on Merkle Tree Certificate (MTC)–based systems and certificate lifecycle services.

The role of a Principal Software Engineer – Trust Infrastructure is centered on high‑performance backend development and distributed systems, advancing existing platform components toward production‑scale reliability, performance, and operability. While the platform operates in a security and PKI domain, this is not a cryptography research role. The emphasis is on strong software engineering, system design, and building robust, scalable infrastructure.

As our trust platform evolves alongside industry direction, this role will naturally expand across adjacent trust and security infrastructure concerns.

This is a full-time position, working in a hybrid model, and reporting to our Ottawa office at least 3-4 days a week. The target compensation package for this role is between CAD 130,000 and CAD 170,000, subject to internal equity and years of experience.  We may make further adjustments through an approval process if the targeted compensation range needs to be modified based on business needs and market trends.

Here are the core functions, responsibilities, and expectations for this role:

  • Advance and harden core trust infrastructure services, with current emphasis on MTC‑based certificate systems.
  • Design, implement, and operate high‑performance distributed backend services in Go (Golang).
  • Scale and optimize systems responsible for certificate issuance, validation, and lifecycle operations.
  • Implement and evolve storage and data models supporting Merkle tree–based trust structures.
  • Translate evolving standards and specifications into practical, production‑ready platform behavior.
  • Improve system reliability, observability, and operability in production environments.
  • Collaborate with architecture, security, and platform teams on long‑term trust infrastructure design.
  • Additional tasks associated with this position may be assigned in response to company initiatives and business needs.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree is related field is strongly recommended.  Advanced degree is welcomed.

Experience:

  • Senior‑level experience (Senior / Principal / Distinguished) as a backend or distributed systems engineer is required.
  • Deep proficiency in Golang, with experience building and operating production services is reqired.
  • Strong background in distributed systems design (scaling, consistency, fault tolerance) is required.
  • Experience building high‑throughput, low‑latency backend platforms is required.
  • Solid understanding of software security fundamentals is required.
  • Familiarity with PKI concepts (certificates, trust models) or demonstrated ability is required to ramp up quickly.
  • Experience working on trust infrastructure, PKI platforms, or security‑critical systems is strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to Merkle trees or authenticated data structures is strongly preferred.
  • Experience implementing standards‑driven systems is strongly preferred.
  • Background in systems that require high correctness guarantees and operational discipline is strongly preferred.

Ideal Candidate Profiles, Talents, and Desired Qualifications:

  • A highly experienced software engineer who enjoys building foundational infrastructure.
  • Comfortable owning complex backend systems end‑to‑end.
  • Pragmatic, disciplined, and focused on production quality.
  • Interested in working in a domain that will evolve significantly over the coming years.
