The Opportunity

We are seeking a Manager – Cloud Engineering with deep technical skills and a passion for public purpose. This role sits within our Transformation practice, with a strong emphasis on end-to-end platform delivery: from front-end interfaces to cloud infrastructure. You’ll drive technical solution design, drive project execution, and support the development of scalable, secure, and modern digital services for government and public sector clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the design and delivery of modern digital platforms, encompassing web, API, data and cloud engineering
  • Oversee client projects, ensuring alignment to business and technical objectives, timelines, and budgets
  • Participate in architectural decisions, tool selection, and coding standards across full-stack environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including designers, analysts, engineers and product owners
  • Build trusted client relationships by delivering high-quality, fit-for-purpose technical solutions
  • Contribute to Scyne's internal capability uplift and product innovation strategy
  • Act as a mentor and people leader, supporting team members in their professional development
  • Maintain thought leadership in cloud-native engineering practices and modern web technologies

Core Experience and Skills

We understand that candidates may bring different combinations of expertise. Below is an outline of the capabilities we’re looking for, with flexibility based on depth and context of experience:

To be successful in this role, you must have: 

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering with a recent focus on cloud-native web application development
  • Proficiency in front-end technologies such as React, TypeScript/JavaScript, and component state management (e.g. Redux)
  • Experience with backend API frameworks (Node.js / Express) and RESTful design
  • Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) including:
    • Compute: Lambda or Azure Functions
    • Storage: S3, Aurora or Azure OneLake / Data Lake, Synapse
  • Proficiency in Python including concurrency, debugging, and scripting
  •  Understanding of authentication/authorisation standards Familiarity with relational and non-relational Databases
  • Strong version control skills using Git
  • Ability to mentor junior developers, demonstrate technical leadership skills, and communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

You will stand out from the crowd if you bring one or more of the following:

  • Experience with multi-cloud environments and hybrid infrastructure
  • Familiarity with vis.gl, map libraries, and rich UI integrations (e.g., Deck.gl)
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration
  • Exposure to AI/ML services
  • Previous consulting or client-facing delivery experience in the public sector
  • Relevant cloud certification (e.g. AWS Certified Developer / Azure Solutions Architect)
  • Ability to obtain Government Security Clearance
