Job Description

SchoolMint is looking for a new Vice President of Engineering who will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of the company’s development. This new VP of Engineering will be an experienced leader who understands product vision, strategy, and how to build product focused engineering culture within a growing company. We are looking for a VP who will have an immediate positive impact on our engineering team, our customers and our company. The work at SchoolMint will be extremely rewarding.

The new VP of Engineering will have a strong technical background, a demonstrated track record as a professional leader with a knack for developing teams, and the business mind to strategically lead the engineering team in the execution of SchoolMint’s strategic objectives.


  • Guide the direction of software development by leading our engineering and QA departments

  • Collaborate cross departmentally with Product Management, Customer Success, Professional Services, Finance, Sales and Marketing in setting the company’s technical vision

  • Support the company’s strategic direction, development, future growth, culture, mission and values

  • Manage geographically distributed development teams and offshore development teams to improve productivity, quality and schedule accuracy

  • Evolve the software development process and tooling to optimize productivity and quality

  • Establish new strategies and policies to promote engineering excellence

  • Execute on the product roadmap in collaboration with the Chief Product Officer

  • Track key productivity metrics and continually work towards improving team efficiency and engineering capacity


Education and Experience

  • 10+ years experience in software development

  • 7+ years managing an engineering team

  • 5+ years in a strategic role scaling a growing engineering team

  • Strong technical / architectural background

  • Experience with technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and server infrastructure

  • Experience in Agile and Scrum

  • Experience working with our tech stack (Ruby on Rails, Node.js, AWS Cloud)

  • “Roll-up-your-sleeves" entrepreneurial, startup attitude

  • Strong motivator, leader, team player with record of leading and mentoring employees

  • Comfortable working with RESTful APIs, understanding database schemas, single sign-on

  • Experience in education technology is a plus

  • Excellent communication
