Job's Mission

As a key partner to the business, the Supplier Relationship Manager of External Manufacturing and Sourcing (EM&S) is responsible for contributing to and executing the company’s external manufacturing strategy across EMEA region. This position leads a portfolio of contractors to deliver superior results in all Supply Chain Key factors like supply performance, cost, quality etc… to better meet our business and patients need.

This position leads a cross functional team of different functions and act as a ‘’virtual site leader’’ with all key functions being part of the team, including supply chain, quality, technical, procurement, project management, finance and other functions as needed. This position is the main contact with our external network partners and is in charge of the overall relationship with these suppliers.

Job Description

  • Lead Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) strategy and performance of a portfolio of External Manufacturers with all associated functions such as Technical, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance and others like Regulatory, R&D, legal Business Development on a need basis.
  • Drive External Manufacturers overall performance and continuous improvement program with the use of quantifiable management tools and measures with the necessary governance process. Drive Supply performance to best in class results
  • Drive best procurement practices to ensure robust negotiations and cost control processes, ensuring the continued supply of competitively priced products for our business. Lead the negotiation and execution of the Manufacturing and Supply Agreements (MSAs) for our commercial products. Lead RFP and RFQ activities to develop robust sourcing plans in alignment with the Global Product Supply Strategy
  • Lead the Value Creation program with our External Manufacturers.
  • Lead and monitor the yearly OPEX and CAPEX process with our External Manufacturers
  • Lead the overall relationship and facilitate problem solving with the External Manufacturers by supporting and active engagement with other functions.
  • Builds a quality ethos into all decisions and processes, reinforcing the implementation of Santen’s Global Tech Transfer Process (GTTP) standards to support Make-or-Buy decisions, Supplier Selection, Technology Transfers and the Management of Commercial Products. 
  • By critical thinking and problem solving, supports particularly the Quality and Regulatory departments by providing technical solutions for CMO quality issues and enabling timely and successful product launches.
  • Provides due diligence evaluation and advice on new sourcing and external manufacturing business opportunities in partnership with the Business Development team. 
  • Negotiates and executes legal contracts, together with the Legal and Business Development teams, including Manufacturing & Supply Agreements and Technical Transfer Agreements, structuring such contracts in an optimal manner so as to ensure the security of long term supply and the protection of the Santen business.

Qualifications

  • University graduate in medical/life sciences or equivalent experience
  • Fluency in English (oral and written), French and other language capability is a big plus
  • Ten years plus experience in product supply and external manufacturing management in the Pharmaceutical industry and/or Medical Device industry with experience in new product launches
  • Experience and solid track record in working with external manufacturing / supplier networks in the EU.
  • Solid understanding of the drug development process, of GMP requirements (FDA, MHLW, EMA, APAC) and the manufacturing of sterile products
  • Strong understanding of Supply Chain Management, Operations Management and overall Procurement
  • Experience in matrix organization, operating and communicating with senior level management, both internally and externally, and managing interdepartmental processes.
  • Strong business acumen, and demonstrated improvements of business performance (optimization of cost, resources, results…), as well as sound understanding of relevant financial and legal aspects
  • Ability to think critically and fast, to make both strategic and tactical decisions in design, management and execution of the sourcing and external manufacturing alliances
  • Masters matrix organization skills and is politically savvy, with strong communication abilities - cross functional and cross cultural awareness
