Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced Lead Project Manager to own end‑to‑end delivery for engineering and manufacturing projects. You’ll lead a team of project managers and coordinators, drive excellent customer outcomes, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the agreed quality standards.


You will run a high‑performing department that balances people leadership, project governance and continuous improvement across internal and external customer projects.

  • Lead and develop a team of project managers and coordinators, giving clear direction and driving performance.
  • Run a successful project delivery department serving both internal and external customers.
  • Create realistic, optimized project plans that maximize outcomes and secure resource allocation.
  • Manage project budgets, risks and progress with clear forecasting and control.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder communication throughout the project lifecycle and act as the primary client contact.
  • Work with supply chain partners to improve quality, cost and delivery (QCD); typical client project value is under £1m.

Qualifications

You’ll be accountable for the full project lifecycle, process adherence and continuous enhancement of delivery methods.

  • Lead end‑to‑end project delivery from initiation through final handover, including detailed timelines and milestone tracking.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to secure resources and ensure installations meet specifications.
  • Follow internal processes, maintain accurate documentation and provide required reporting.
  • Manage project budgets and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect schedule and cost.
  • Monitor project performance against objectives, ensuring successful FAT and SAT and high client satisfaction.
  • Identify and implement improvements to project management practices and client experience while empowering team development.

Specific features
The role requires someone who can operate across business levels and travel as needed to support projects and clients.

  • Ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all organizational levels, internal and external.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of processes for capital equipment manufacturers.
  • Valid passport and willingness/ability to travel for site work and client meetings.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Right to work in the UK (valid work permit required).

Targets and measures
Your success will be measured by delivery, testing outcomes and the effectiveness of management tools.

  • Timely delivery of projects within agreed budgets.
  • Successful Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Quality and usability of project management tracking tools and reporting.

Knowledge & skills
We’re seeking a technically strong project leader with formal project management credentials and solid hands‑on manufacturing experience.

  • Formal project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, PMI) and a minimum of 5 years’ practical project management experience within engineering design and manufacturing.
  • Formal engineering qualification (HNC/HND or higher) as a minimum requirement.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and MS Project (or equivalent scheduling tools).
  • Strong negotiation and problem‑solving skills combined with methodical, clear reporting.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience empowering teams and driving performance.
  • Positive, can‑do attitude with the ability to maintain a strategic, big‑picture view across the business.
