Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer is an integral role in Syntegon’s success in leading the world’s packaging machinery market.

The Senior Electrical Engineer designs creative solutions to answer our customers challenging motion and automation application needs. The role is actively involved in decision making and implementation of tasks in all lifecycle phases of our equipment, ranging from research and development topics of new product lines to updating and maintaining of our current product lines to obsolescence planning and modernization of legacy equipment in the field. This is a fast pace, dynamic and team centric work environment that requires self-motivation and independence paired with empowerment to be impactful for the organization and to meet our customer’s high expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC and HMI applications using Rockwell, Beckhoff, Yaskawa, B&R, and Zenon.
  • Develop multi-axis servo and VFD motion control applications.
  • Develop machine safety applications through safety PLCs and/or safety monitoring relays.
  • Design electrical schematics and panel layouts in AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Perform all necessary engineering calculations to meet industrial design standards relevant to automated packaging machinery including NEC, NFPA, UL, CSA, CE, and other customer specific standards.
  • Research and implement new technologies and/or methods pertaining to machine/motion control, Industrial IoT/I4.0 and any other areas that can help Syntegon continue leading the market by providing quality and cutting-edge solutions.
  • Research alternative parts for long-lead, obsolete, or non-compliant hardware devices.
  • Leverages SAP and Agile PLM Software to document BOMs, maintain machine templates, and provide engineering change notices for customer orders
  • Documents machine safety risks and reduction strategies through Risk Assessment.
  • Creates Sistema reports to validate CAT3, PLd safety implementation.
  • Integrates and configures peripheral equipment such as glue systems, vision systems, and date coders.
  • Commissions and troubleshoots packaging machinery and packaging systems at Syntegon and/or customers sites.
  • Documents project related material and supports publications in generating functional descriptions
  • Contributes significantly to process improvement, design standardization, and quality.
  • Provides phone and on-site technical support.
  • Provides mentoring and training to team members.
  • Leads projects when multiple engineers are working together.
  • Supervises and supports the Electrical team when the Electrical Engineering Manager is not available.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Automation, Robotics or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of industrial electrical engineering experience in electrical design, developing industrial machinery and electrical enclosures.
  • Working experience developing software for multi-servo axis machinery and system control software for automated packaging machinery or other capital equipment using Rockwell RSLogix5000/Studio5000, FactoryTalk View ME software.
  • Working experience implementing Rockwell hardware including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PanelView Plus HMI’s, PowerFlex Variable Frequency Drives (PF525/527), and Kinetix5500 Servo Drives.
  • Working experience with AutoCAD for the development and/or maintenance of electrical diagrams, electrical libraries, and design of electrical panels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Working experience with automated packaging machinery or other capital equipment with a good mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical mechanisms.
  • Working experience integrating vision and barcode systems into PLC based controls platforms for vision-based inspections of printed data (OCR/OCV) and product/part inspection. This includes proper camera/lens/lighting selection as well as configuration, setup and proper hardware and lighting selection.
  • Working experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT 2/3 PLC/Motion Software, Zenon, and SAP.
  • Working experience programming delta, collaborative, and/or other industrial robotic systems.

Additional Information

Additional information

The expected compensation range for this position is between $90,000 - $125,000 based on a full-time schedule.

Compensation for roles at Syntegon varies depending on a wide array of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skill set, and level of relevant experience. At Syntegon compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Total rewards at Syntegon include salary + bonus (if applicable) + benefits.
