Job Description

SUMMARY: Primary responsibility is to manage the Modernization product line and deliver target sales and gross margin. This includes quoting and executing profitable and on-time spare parts and modernization equipment/projects. This is accomplished, primarily, through establishing and maintaining strong Center of Competence (CoC) relationships, creating and improving lean processes and continually improving RFQ response and turnaround time.  Position requires coordinating engineers and technicians used in design, assembly and installations as well as quoting, monitoring and scheduling all modernization projects and upgrade kits.  All done in such a manner so as to maximize profit and minimize warranty for our spare parts and modernization orders.  Profitability, on-time deliveries, meeting customer expectations for quality, performance and cost value are key measures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

I.   Generate timely quoting in response to RFQ’s for spare parts and modernizations.

II.  Modernization Product Line Key Elements:

  • Responsible for overall operation of the “Modernization Product line” including achieving targeted sales and gross margin.
  • Establishes annual departmental/product budget.
  • Directs all engineering operations for Product line and ensures products are designed or redesigned, or new products (Upgrades) are introduced in order to meet quality and sales objectives.
  • Manages processes and costs efficiently to control product costs favorable to market conditions.  Recommends changes, reviews progress and approves cost estimates and proposals.
  • Responsible for effective planning, coordinating and directing all established Modernization activities.
  • Carries product profit/loss responsibilities.

III. Project Definition

  • Manage Modernization Product line to achieve sales and gross margin targets.
  • Support sales in product qualification and proposal phases.  Work with sales and customer to create value-added Modernization solutions.
  • Prepare all project cost sheets; sell price sheets to ensure pricing proposals are correct and consistent with profitability targets.
  • Compare customer order with original proposal to be certain no unattended expectations exist.
  • Develop and manage overall project objectives.  (Schedule, costs, resources, documentation).
  • As required, assist sales with customer visits and technical presentations to secure orders, including pricing and RFQ’s.

IV. Project Execution for spare parts and modernizations

  • Guide and direct team members to execute project plan, while maintaining overall responsibility for the project.
  • Communicate project objectives, schedules and cost budget to all team members.
  • Schedule and manage all project meetings and assign project responsibilities to all team members as needed.  Motivate and challenge team members to ensure schedules, quality standards and profit targets are achieved.
  • Excellent cooperation and communication with sales personnel and Centers of Competency (CoC) is necessary as well as customer visits to support sales and the creation of customer solutions that enable customer to optimize existing assets are required components of position. 
  • Maintain a complete and accurate record of project history.  Review all potential cost increases and/or schedule changes with management and/or customer and resolve to respective satisfaction.
  • Assure that warranty costs are minimal.

V. Customer Interaction

  • Serve as primary source for any customer interaction once the project becomes an order.  This relates to design and review meetings, schedules, work scope changes or other change notices.
  • Travel as needed to customer site or participating coop vendors locations to complete necessary tasks or assignments to complete project.
  • Responsible for customer visits and machinery/project acceptance for shipment.

VI. Project Tracking for spare parts and modernizations

  • Manage activities and schedules to keep projects on schedule concerning cost, schedules and overall specifications.  Communicate progress with customer.

*Supervisory Responsibility: Supervise engineering and technicians during assembly and installation of project. Give work direction to departmental team members.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a minimum of an Associate degree in Engineering, Business or Technology and have 5+ years of experience with packaging machinery, automation and project management OR have a Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of the same experience indicated
  • Must have at least 3+ years of experience supervising technical associates and/or leading project teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Clear understanding and knowledge of all Packaging Products, including technical knowledge of operations and applications of all applicable packaging equipment, preferred.
  • Familiarity with Central Directive for Quality (CDQ).
  • Effective communication and ability to establish strong relationships with Centers of Competencies (CoC’s).
  • Ability to challenge and motivate team members to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to make appropriate and immediate decisions regarding technical and customer issues that arise during projects.
  • Experience with lean processes.

Additional information

The expected compensation range for this position is between $80,000 - $130,000 based on a full-time schedule.

Compensation for roles at Syntegon varies depending on a wide array of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skill set, and level of relevant experience.
