Job Description

SUMMARY: The director will lead the mechanical, electrical, applications and R&D engineering department efforts in the design of production equipment from conception through SAT and can continue through aftermarket adjustments with the field service team. Must possess the ability to drive and manage multiple projects, instill confidence in customers while working as the design “consultant” and deliver value-added input and support services to solve production challenges.  The Director also serves as the customer’s advocate within the company and manages projects through the operations to meet milestone dates.

This individual will accomplish goals through a collaborative, transparent, energetic style.  He/she must have a passion for both equipment design and business strategy with a hands-on approach.  Responsible for all product estimation & development, project engineering and R&D project management ensuring that all projects are completed on time and on budget. This individual will work with internal resources and suppliers to achieve functional goals.

To be successful in this role, you must balance an understanding of the marketplace and the consumer need for new, sustainable, innovative products with an understanding of how to execute and deliver these products on a timely and cost-effective basis.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute an engineering strategy based on industry standards and best practices ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure that engineering knowledge, processes and best practices are leveraged across platforms and develop standardization where appropriate.
  • Responsible for controlling project engineering costs in the areas of quality, efficiency, downtime and rework.
  • Define, direct and communicate engineering vision, program and scope and resource allocation for all phases of the process.
  • Oversee development of quality standards and selection of implementation delivery method.
  • Responsible for all aspects of project engineering and planning which includes evaluating and approving changes that substantially impact the scope, budget, or schedule of a project/process.
  • Monitor progress and performance against the project plan.
  • Regular communication with staff and other departments to create and sustain a good working relationship and enhance the quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Execute feasibility on design, COGS, manufacturing capabilities and timing.
  • Consults with senior management in selection of implementation delivery method.
  • Participate in the resolution of related quality issues.
  • Follow and resolve related timeline challenges
  • Hire and retain best in class team to achieve engineering requirements
  • Domestic and limited international travel up to10% of the time

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of mechanical, electrical, application and R&D departments.
  • Drive synergies throughout the engineering departments.
  • Implement best practice procedures to address product quality, simplification and R&D innovation.
  • Ability to manage and motivate employees and work with Human Resources to maintain staffing requirements.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support in technology transfers, troubleshooting and problem resolution, and cost improvement.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Must have a minimum of 7+ years of machine design management experience in a capital equipment design manufacturing organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Solid experience in directing a creative engineering team, combining process management with customer focus, nurturing of a creative environment that encourages new ideas and innovation
  • Demonstrated success managing projects, priorities and personalities, guiding direct-reports and cross-functional teams of internal and external resources
  • A track record of delivering quality products while working on multiple initiatives and deadlines
  • Formal training in Project Management including experience using MS Project preferred
  • Proficient understanding of engineering drawings, BOMs, and related operational procedures
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, Inventor or SolidWorks 3D, and/or other related engineering tools
  • Ability to have a good vision of what the customer expectations are.
  • Ability to conceptualize, design and communicate technical information.
  • Be innovative, resourceful and disciplined when resolving technical challenges.
  • Strong communication skills in large group settings and the ability to liaise with people at all levels within organization.
  • Positive thought leader able drive and inspire a team in the development and execution of strategies and capture plans
  • “Hands-on” doer/seller professional who leads/manages by example and motivates individuals at all levels to strive for success and excellence
  • A leader with proven ethics, integrity, ownership, strong communication skills, and a drive and desire to build a “top-notch” practice
