Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Lawyer to join our organisation in Benin City, Nigeria. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive legal support and guidance to our educational institution, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Offer expert legal advice on various educational matters, including student rights, staff employment, and institutional policies
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements related to the school's operations
- Represent the school in legal proceedings and disputes
- Conduct legal research and analysis to stay abreast of changes in education law and policies
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the school's interests
- Collaborate with school administrators and staff to ensure legal compliance in day-to-day operations
- Provide training and guidance on legal issues to school personnel
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel when necessary
- Assist in the development and revision of school policies and procedures to align with legal requirements
Qualifications
- Law degree (LLB) from an accredited university
- Called to the Nigerian Bar and current membership in the Nigerian Bar Association
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in education law or a related field
- Proven experience working with educational institutions
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian education law, policies, and the education system
- Strong legal research and analytical skills
- Excellent contract drafting and review abilities
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional negotiation and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
- Keen attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in legal research tools and software
