Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities.  The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs.  The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.  St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

Brief Description of Principal Activities

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles.  St. Joseph Center’s integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.

Job Description

Summary

St. Joseph Center provides a diverse array of services throughout the Los Angeles County, providing opportunities to unhoused adults in a safe, private, and secured environment. Program participants are empowered to build stability and self-sufficiency while obtaining services in any of St. Joseph Center programs. Each site offers a welcoming, safe environment provided by all staff members with a variety of supportive services. St. Joseph Center promotes a team-oriented culture that values communication, collaboration, and coordination. Sites will be staffed and operated seven days per week, 24 hours per day with on-site security services. Program assistant works as a team member with several social service professional staff ensuring the delivery of quality care as well as adherence to the mission of St. Joseph Center.

  1. Greet, interact with guests, clients, and visitors as needed and identify the purpose of the visit. Direct each to specific areas of the building and/or notify staff as appropriate.
  2. Maintain visitor logbook by requesting all visitors to log in time in and out, answer all phone calls by the third ring, and transfer callers to the appropriate staff.
  3. Monitor and report all emergency incidents to supervisors and security staff immediately for resolution.
  4. Receive all deliveries such as US mail, FedEx, DHL, PD Rabbit, etc. Notify departments of arriving packages and mail, Maintain order and cleanliness of team area, report equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
  5. Engage clients and provide them with information about agency programs, in addition work to identify households most likely to benefit from assistance.
  6. Responsible for program fund tracking, purchasing, credit card receipts tracking and reconciliation including communication with vendors (i.e. cable, gas company, Public Storage) to resolve issues with clients’ payments and submit to the finance department and supervisor.
  7. Creates, modifies documents, tracking sheets and inputs data entry via Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.
  8. Manages agency vehicle tracking, and maintenance.
  9. Coordinates psychiatry calendars, team event calendars.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience with homeless, substance abuse, and mentally disabled individuals in desirable.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.


Other Qualifications

  • Possesses a valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
  • Required to travel several times per month (25% to 50% of the time).
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Spanish/ English bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Maintains patient privacy, including protecting the confidentiality, safeguarding the integrity and availability, and limiting the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) to authorized individuals and entities.
  • Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
  • Sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Punctual and dependable attendance.
  • Free from alcohol and drug abuse.
  • Understands SJC’s basic philosophy and participates fully in carrying out its mission.

English Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

  • Must have intermediate knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel and E-mail.

Additional Information

Status: Full time/Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $18.86 - $25.50/hr

At St. Joseph Center, pay ranges are set using the best available market data for the job at the required location. To determine salary for a candidate, we consider the candidate's skills and capabilities for the job compared with expectations for the position.
