Job Description
Job Summary
St. Joseph Center is seeking an Employment Liaison to help build the employer side of Youth Pathways South LA. The position develops and manages the employer partnerships that turn program completion into paid work for opportunity for youth ages 18 to 30. This includes entry-level jobs, paid internships, employer-paid apprenticeship placements through the program's Apprenticeship in a Box model, and routes into registered union apprenticeships.
What You'll Do:
- Build and manage a pipeline of employer partners that creates jobs, paid internships, employer-paid apprenticeship placements and apprenticeship pathways for Youth Pathways participants.
- Broker and support placements for Root and Tech Path graduates, serving as the single point of contact for employer partners from the first conversation through retention.
- Work with the Program Manager and the Senior Director of Social Innovation to grow strategic employer, industry and labor partnerships that expand the career paths available to youth.
- Prospect, cultivate and sign employer partners in technology, business services, healthcare, hospitality and culinary, construction and the trades, and the public sector, with an early focus on larger employers that have regular openings, intern or apprentice structures and community impact goals.
- Lead the employer side of Apprenticeship in a Box: work with each employer to define a role blueprint built from their actual need, negotiate a term sheet for a 6- or 12-month employer-paid placement, and make sure the employer has the onboarding kit, supervisor and mentor guides, and compliance information in place before a participant starts.
- Maintain current labor market intelligence on employer partners, openings, wage ranges, hiring requirements and in-demand skills, and bring employer feedback to the Program Manager and instructors to ensure alignment.
- Represent SJC at employer convenings, industry associations, chambers of commerce, workforce development boards, WorkSource Centers and hiring fairs.
- Support the Senior Director of Social Innovation with employer engagement strategy, corporate and philanthropic partner conversations, advisory group work and presentations to prospective partners.
*Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience in employer engagement, job development, business development, account management, recruiting or workforce development.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, public administration, human services or a related field. A combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Working knowledge of the Los Angeles labor market, including growth sectors, entry-level hiring practices, wage ranges and which employers are positioned to hire and develop young adults.
- Experience negotiating partnership agreements, MOUs or hiring commitments with employers.
- Demonstrated record of building employer partnerships that resulted in hires, internships or apprenticeships, preferably for people with barriers to employment.
Travel Requirements:
- Access to reliable transportation.
