Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice and throughout Los Angeles County.  The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through 20+ programs in four pillars of service: Outreach and Engagement, Housing Services, Mental Health, and Education and Vocational Training.  St. Joseph Center serves more than 10,000 people each year. 

Brief Description of Principal Activities

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, mental health, and housing assistance is offered through street outreach and 9 service sites throughout Los Angeles County. St. Joseph Center also provides on-site services at five permanent supportive housing developments, and will provide services at an additional six more sites in the coming year.  St. Joseph Center’s total holistic approach to services provide our clients with the help they need to regain their stability.

Job Description

Job Summary

The Pickup & Delivery Driver works as a team member with other Operations staff to ensure prompt and efficient retrieval and delivery of donated goods and supplies for the agency.  You will represent St. Joseph Center in a professional and cost-effective manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Pickup & Delivery Driver’s key areas of responsibility include: 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Make routine pickup of Food Pantry goods weekly.
  • Pickup a wide variety of items from various donor locations through Los Angeles county.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, donors, and community providers.
  • Deliver donated items and supplies to program sites.
  • Assist Operations department as needed for events and special projects.

Essential Duties:

  • Load, unload, prepare, inspect, and operate a delivery vehicle 16-foot box truck.
  • Complete pickup logs and reports daily.
  • Follow DOT regulations and safety standards.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Valid professional driver’s license
  • Ability to operate forklifts and hydraulic lift in a variety of weather and traffic conditions
  • Must be highly motivated and a self-starter. 
  • The have the ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of people
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 40 pounds.

Experience:

  • Proven working experience as a Delivery Driver.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Good driving record with no traffic violations.

Education:

  • High school diploma

Direct Reports:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. 

Computer Skills:

  • Familiar with text messaging and Google maps.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Valid automobile liability insurance.

Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt 

Salary: DOE
