Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities.  The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs.  The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.  St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles.  St. Joseph Center’s integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.

Job Description

Job Summary

The Certified RV Technician will diagnose, inspect, adjust, repair, maintain and/or overhaul recreational vehicles. May specialize in maintaining gas, electrical, hydraulic, plumbing, or chassis/towing systems as well as repairing generators, appliances, exterior and interior components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Certified RV Technician’s key areas of responsibility and essential duties include:

  • Explain proper operation of vehicle systems and explain use of products or services
  • Inspect vehicles to determine overall condition, inspect mechanical components of vehicles to identify problems, inspect systems to determine if they are operating properly
  • Examine vehicles needing repair to determine the nature and extent of damage, determine repairs or modifications needed
  • Locate and repair frayed wiring, broken connections, or incorrect wiring, using ohmmeters, soldering irons, tape, or hand tools
  • Repair electrical circuits or wiring, repair plumbing or propane gas lines, using caulking compounds and plastic or copper pipe
  • Repair worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts, repair leaks with caulking compound or replace pipes, using pipe wrenches
  • Examine or test operation of parts or systems to ensure completeness of repairs, inspect completed work to ensure proper functioning
  • Connect electrical systems to outside power sources and activate switches to test the operation of appliances or light fixtures
  • Connect electrical components or equipment, connect water hoses to inlet pipes of plumbing systems and test operation of toilets or sinks, connect hoses to equipment or piping
  • Connect and replace propane tanks as needed, diagnose and repair furnace or air conditioning systems
  • Open and close doors, windows, or drawers to test their operation, trimming edges to fit, as necessary
  • Refinish wood or metal surfaces on cabinets, doors, moldings, or floors, using power sanders, putty, spray equipment, brushes, paints, or varnishes
  • Remove damaged exterior panels and repair and replace structural frame members, Remove parts or components from equipment, reassemble equipment after repair
  • Cut materials according to specifications or needs, seal gaps or cracks to prevent leakage or moisture intrusion
  • Repair non-engine automotive or vehicle components, test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning
  • Estimate costs for labor or materials, list parts needed, estimate costs, and plan work procedures, using parts lists, technical manuals, or diagrams, record information about parts, materials or repair procedures

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be highly motivated and a self-starter. 
  • Must have the ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of people including clients, community, and other staff. 
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Must be able to lift 40-50 pounds.
  • Must have basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting and other building maintenance tasks.
  • Must be able to use power and hand tools.
  • Must have basic diagnostic and minor repair knowledge of auto mechanics.
  • The position requires an ability to work flexible hours including some early mornings and evenings.

Experience:

  • Two years of experience in RV maintenance.

Education:

  • High School Diploma and RVDA-RVIA Service Technician Certificate.

Direct Reports:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and widely supported internet browsers.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Valid California Class C Driver License.
  • Valid automobile liability insurance.

Status: Full-time/Non-Exempt 

Salary: DOE
