Job Description

The Senior Project Manager is responsible to maintain a high level of control and facilitate timely decisions on project schedule, budget, and risk issues. This position will provide management with regular project updates, maintain trusting relationships, identify project risks early and assist by providing prudent and timely recommendations for risk avoidance and will supervise and mentor project team staff for both project and career growth, and make staff development recommendations. The Senior Project Manager typically manages medium to large sized complex, critical projects and includes elements of business analysis and software product management for mission critical applications.

Core Job Requirements/Outcomes

  • Prioritize, plan, execute and manage assigned cross-functional and departmental projects according to deadlines and budgets by assigning deliverables and tasks to project team members, working to resolve issues relating to assigned projects, maintaining effective project communications with team members, sponsors and other credit union staff. This includes coordinating dependencies with other teams, removing impediments blocking team members’ progress and administering vendor relationships to effectively address business requirements during project implementation.
  • Track and maintain project progress by using appropriate tools and ensuring that it is updated regularly by managing, updating, and reviewing the project documentation and tracking systems.
  • Proficient in the identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks by identifying the resources and processes to minimize, monitor and control the probability
  • Seek opportunities for process improvement and management by recommending best practices to simplify complex processes and researching and recommending best practices for the project management process including project lifecycle, methodologies, and project planning tools.

Other Essential Functions

  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership skills by providing effective leadership, mentoring or coaching which results in a positive work environment and high-performing, cohesive teams by dealing with team members on routine project issues and by recognizing situations and takes action to deal with them proactively, creating positive outcomes.
  • Partner with business lines to research and evaluate new technologies to satisfy identified business needs by extracting business requirements for vendor evaluations and interface development and identifying business needs and determine solutions to business problems.
  • Provide project support / consulting that meets the needs of STCU and business partners / relationships by building trusting relationships, supporting other departments as needed and identifying and recommending strategies that meet the organizational goals and objectives.
  • Manage vendor relationships by communicating regularly with vendor contact, facilitating open discussions on product direction, and reviewing/signing contracts when required.
  • Provide software product management for mission critical applications by tracking and prioritizing product defects and enhancements, communicating updates to end users, facilitating product upgrades and new feature integration, facilitating the identification and prioritization of efforts required to improve the efficiency and quality of software applications and acting as a liaison between end users and IT departments. Act as a technical owner for software by completing audit and information systems’ requirements associated with those applications.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required.

Job Experience: Minimum of four years’ work experience in the computer science field and five years’ experience managing complex, critical projects. Minimum of one-year experience at STCU in the Information Technology Department or other relevant financial institution experience preferred. Basic understanding of Scrum and Kanban methodologies also preferred.

Software Experience: Working knowledge of current Microsoft operating systems, and proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, MS Project, and Planner.

Other Skills: General knowledge in defining and writing business requirements, functional specification, and QA testing documents.  Demonstrated ability to accomplish large projects with little supervision, both in a team atmosphere and independently; with above average time management skills. Ability to facilitate meetings, interviews, and presentations with various size group, negotiate between all levels of employees and stakeholders in the project for optimum results.

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
