Job Description

The Loan Officer Assistant I is responsible for providing support in the area of Real Estate loan origination. This process includes status updates and/or follow-up with borrowers, realtors, operations staff and management. This position will also provide support as needed in gathering underwriting conditions as well as assisting the processing team to maintain forward progress of a file. The Loan Officer Assistant I may provide support to both the internal and external Real Estate teams.

Loan Production

  • Perform high volume Real Estate lending functions for STCU members and nonmembers accurately, timely and in alignment with STCU loan standards and procedures:
  • Interview and process first mortgage loan applications, ensuring accurate information.
  • Communicate with Home Loan Officers, members and realtors about the status of loans in process.
  • Evaluate credit reports and review title reports, appraisals, inspections and supporting documentation; making mortgage loan recommendations while conforming to guidelines of STCU policies and/or secondary market guidelines.
  • Obtain information needed to approve and close mortgages within time frames needed/requested by members. 
  • Review loan applications, complete basic income analysis, and request any missing information needed to begin processing.
  • Assist in obtaining information to clear pre-closing conditions.
  • Provide status updates to borrowers at key points during the loan process (including but not limited to: welcome call, appraisal status, final touch, etc.).
  • Be flexible and provide support within areas of both production and operations when called upon.
     

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.Minimum of one year experience in real estate, origination and/or processing.
  • Previous STCU Real Estate Department experience or other lending experience may be considered in lieu of real estate origination or processing experience.
  • Previous experience with loan origination software, electronic files storage systems and submission of loans through an Automated Underwriting System. 
  • National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) registration under the terms of the SAFE Act of 2008 is required.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience in keyboarding/PC and 10-key calculator.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required, including maintaining positive relationships and excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work group, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changes and prioritize and manage competing demands.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret data and understand and communicate complex and diverse information.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations exercising flexibility and sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make practical and timely decisions and explain reasoning for decisions.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Strong work ethic required, including the ability to complete duties on time, consistently arrive at work ontime as scheduled, and ability to work flexible hours and overtime as needed. 

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to regularly talk, hear, see and operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Occasionally lift, pull/push, and carry up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting.
  • Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
