Job Description
The Consumer Loan Underwriter II is primarily responsible for the underwriting of consumer loans submitted, as well as secondary support for the underwriting of indirect loans and will have higher lending authority than a Consumer Loan Underwriter I.
Core Job Requirements/Outcomes
- Underwrite a higher level volume of consumer loan requests, which includes secured and unsecured and home equity loan requests by analyzing credit reports and making sound lending decisions within established lending limits. Identify situations where the Credit Union may be at risk and identify solutions to mitigate by staying current on industry trends and set risk tolerance by management.
- Ensure quality and correct applications by accurately calculating verification of income, including basic tax analysis and accurately reviewing trust documents for Home Equity requests.
- Organize loan turn-around time and credit decision deadlines to meet the member's needs and maximize production by working timed chat requests and working set queues within designated lending authority.
- Ensure consistency in underwriting by mentoring, training, and assisting co-workers in the daily operation of the department.
Other Essential Functions
- Participate and/or consult on departmental or organizational projects that contribute to the evolvement of STCU’s culture and strategic vision and/or achievement of goals.
- Adhere to and maintain knowledge in compliance standards for the department and the organization.
- Dedicate time for self-development and increase job skills and knowledge.
- Perform additional duties as assigned for efficient operation of the department and the organization. This also includes the possibility of being assigned temporarily to other locations.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.
Job Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in consumer loan origination with three years’ experience in consumer loan underwriting and approval required, with a proven ability to make sound lending decisions.
Software Skills: Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word and Excel.
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
