Job Description

The Home Equity Loan Officer is responsible for performing high volume lending functions for all consumer loan types, with a concentration on home equity loans, in alignment with STCU’s loan policies and procedures. This position seeks opportunities to bring existing loans over to STCU, as well as cross sells payment protection. This position also provides training to other members of the team.

  • In alignment with our Core Values provide members financial direction by assisting in meeting their current and future financial need by recommending appropriate products and/or services from multiple delivery channels accurately, timely and in alignment with job standards and procedures.
  • Perform high volume lending functions by engaging in high level conversations with members, underwriters, Lending Administration as well as the home equity processors.
  • Verify accuracy of information on all applications by reading and evaluating credit reports, verifying value of collateral, reviewing numerous types of income and verifying income calculators and ensuring application and associated documentation is in order.
  • Prepare multiple loan types for funding by coordinating with the home equity loan processors to ensure successful fundings.

Other Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of regulatory information, including HMDA reporting, HOEPA, and HPML and how the regulations apply to home equity lending.
  • Responsible for meeting all department expectations regarding loan production, phone availability and the cross-selling of payment protection and rescued loans.
  • Provide ancillary credit union product information to members and present the benefits of coverage in a knowledgeable and thorough manner.
  • Seek opportunities and make recommendations for enhancements and efficiencies within the department.

Qualifications

Education: High diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.

Certifications: National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) registration under the terms of the SAFE Act of 2008 is required.

Job Experience:  Minimum five years’ experience in consumer lending in a financial institution with at least five years’ experience conducting business over the phone including prospecting, selling and servicing new and existing members/customers. Previous experience coaching, mentoring or training is strongly preferred.

Software Skills: Proficient knowledge of MS office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.

Other Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to work well with members and staff in a tactful and professional manner in person and on the phone

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Other: Perform additional duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the department and the organization. This includes the possibility of being assigned temporarily to other locations.
