Job Description

The Loan Service Specialist provides support and mentorship to the servicing area of Loan Service department. This position has the expertise and high-level knowledge of all servicing related tasks assigned to the department with the ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. The Loan Service Specialist is also responsible for training and coaching of peers.  

Core Job Requirements/Outcomes 

  • Provide exceptional member service by assisting members and frontline staff on general loan servicing questions related to loan payment maintenance, loan verifications/payoff quotes, third-party disbursements, payment protection claims and credit bureau inquiries.
  • Mitigate loan loss risk by ensuring that the institutions collateral is adequately secured through title perfection and Deed of Trust maintenance while also maintaining that the collateral is fully insured against any losses or damage.
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements included in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau by responding to consumer inquiries and exception reporting while maintaining the institutions privacy and security policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure loan setup and documentation accuracy and completeness by reviewing and auditing new loans in order to prevent any unnecessary rework and member dissatisfaction.

Other Essential Functions

  • Utilize continual improvement tools when performing servicing tasks and project work and communicate any necessary procedure updates and ideas for improvement to department managers.
  • Provides support to team members by maintaining positive working relationships that promote a collaborative and inviting team environment.
  • Keep departmental procedures and task instructions current by auditing and updating as needed.
  • Provide support for the department by processing departmental reports and workflows to keep loan records accurate, as well as monitoring incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Address process and member escalations by researching and providing timely responses. 
  • Report to investors by submitting daily and monthly reporting, in addition to remittance.
  • Ensure resolution of delinquent property taxes by working with third-party vendor to provide notices to members.
  • Contributes to the strategic initiatives of the credit union by participating in projects as department expert.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.

Job Experience: Minimum of four years’ experience in loan servicing or a combination of loan servicing and other related industry or financial institution experience. 

Software Skills: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
